Starting to feel like a failure

Cathy, People were always shocked that I got so heavy because according to them "You eat very little!" Little did they know the amount of calories I consumed between 8pm and 6am. . . Up down, up, down, get a drink, get a bite or two or three, go to the bathroom, repeat, repeat, repeat. . . From one night time eater to another I so understand. It's still something that I have to watch.  You have a wonderful weekend too.

yes; it IS hard!!anyone who tells you that you took the easy way out to lose weight is full of well- you know what i mean!!!!!

i went to your profile and so please let me ask you a question-which you do NOT have to answer publicly...how much weight did you and your doctor think you should be losing to get to goal?? you said something about 100#--so if you are needing to lose approx 100# you may be considered a "lightweight"???? meaning you don't have to lose lots and lots... i was...and it seems to be much more difficult for us with less to lose to lose it quickly--it doesn't just fall off!! some folks who had much more to lose actually have stories of larger amounts of weight falling off quickly--i hope that i am coming across in a sensitive nature and not upsetting anyone- don't mean to!

anyhow--one of the main things to remember in this journey is NOT to compare yourself to others....we each are different in our body makeup...i cannot tell you how disappinte di was to see ppl who had surgery same time as me say they had lost 10-20-30 # in the first month! not me!!!!

also...be sure that you are getting your water in and do try to get the protein first!! as jeannie mentioned -the slider foods will go down more easily--also connie suggested needing meats wetter--juice/broth/gravy made with little or no fat....now; talking about fluids....be sure not to drink with your meals......

this is not easy, but it gets easier with time...give yourself time !!!!

you are NOT a failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so- now dust yourself off and get back in the game!!!! sending hugs!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I am so sorry you are struggling right now.  You are not a failure.  Losing weight is hard.  If that weren't the case, you would have lost it all without surgery.  Hang in there and work your tool.  Don't compare yourself to others who are on this same journey.  We all lose at different rates and have different experiences.  Concentrate on where you are, 57 pounds closer to goal.  Concentrate on the accomplishments and work it one small step at a time.  I know you can be successful.  I can't offer any specific advice since I didn't have the same surgery, but there are plenty of helpful people who can.

Good luck,

Caro

Harmony,

Ditto to everything Margo said (as well as the others), as I, too, am considered in the lightweight category and watched many others who had their surgery get to goal, while I'm still not there. . .  each person's journey is different, the thing to remember is you just gotta keep at it and do your best to make choices that you know are in your best interests.

When I shop for food, I buy the things I know are good for me and scrupulously read labels, snacks I measure out in snack baggies, portion sizing them to one single serving and yes, winter is hard, I honestly believe and, have said as much, that our bodies crave more fat in winter, so I think that equates to feelings of being hungry more, not to mention the shorter days and being indoors more often.  So get that "failure" word out of your head, because 57 lbs. is not failure and you can do it.

Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Again, thanks for the replies.   I think that it would have been easier for me if we had been going into the warm months, rather than the cold ones, when I had my surgery.   But, that was when it worked out, so I have to just plug ahead, like everyone said.   Let me ask one more question, though:   At less than 5 months from surgery, it would be unlikely that I would not continue to lose, even slowly, wouldn't it?   I don't think I have ever read anyone's profile that was permanently stuck so soon.   I know that the next year will require a lot of effort, though.  I also think that it will be easier when I can better tolerate some of the things I would be glad to eat and that are good choices.   I miss fresh fruits and veggies, as well as meats.   We are supposed to be snowed in here in our area for a few days, so I will have to find something to keep myself busy, so I won't eat junk!!! LOL
thanks again, Cathy

Hello do not know if you remember me or not we had surgery on the same day. I was not loosing at all and started using Weigh****chers as a guide to follow......bascially it is making good choices. For snacks I buy the 100 calorie hostess choc cakes 3 small cakes take small bites and give it a few minutes and I am satisfied. I still do not exercise however, I am sure allot more mobile than I was before. I am not saying count calories, find a food plan that works for you. I still go to Mc Donalds everyday I can have a sauage mcmuffin or an egg mc muffin I have unsweet tea and get a side salad with dressing for lunch. At lunch I have choices of lean cusine, going to subway for soup or 3 inch sandwich. I have recently given up chips but if I just gotta have them I buy the small lunch box size. Get your arms around the food you like and Plan Plan Plan I usually know what I am going to eat the day before and if I change something I make up for it. I have been able to eat most anything fried food bothers me. 57 LBS when we started this you would have given anything to lose 57 pounds. BE SURE you are drinking your fluids I still can not drink water so I put about an inch of tea and sweeters in a 44 oz cup and I have no problem drinking 1 or 2 of those a day. I also drink at least one glass of skim milk a day Since I have found my niche I am doing better before I went almost 3 months at loosing 48 pounds. I know this is what you want I have not lost as much as I wanted to at this point my doctor says we loose for the 1st year so we got 8 months to figure this out. I had a week I gain weight and I freaked out ...Tonight I went to Taco bell and got a crispy Fresno taco yummy filling and not allot of calories or fat .......YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I count my protein on the things I eat and it it does not have fiber or protein I don't eat it. maybe someday I will but not now. even those Hostess cakes have 2 protein. :) those and some skim milk is about 10 protein filling and very satifing ( has 5 grams of fiber as a bonus)))))) YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!
