On Friday I got the letter saying I was approved for the gastric bypass. I was very thankful and excited as I was worried that I would be turned down due to BMI of 40. I just got off the phone with Dr. Emma Patterson's office. My surgery is scheduled for March 26th. OMG that is very soon!!!! I wonder why I'm not feeling extremely excited and joyful. Instead I feel kinda overwhelmed. any one else experience this? Diane

Diane, Congrats! And yes, feeling overwhelmed after approval is totally normal. You have all the stress and worry build up during the pre-aprroval period and then you realize once you're approved that omg... I am having surgery in a few weeks!!! So don't worry, be happy, rofl! Seriously, just try to relax and put your post surgery stuff in order Get your protein sources, your recommended post op foods etc... and clean your house so you don't worry about that right after surgery... then try to relax, or come here and freak out on us, we all did it and will do some hand holding for you Michele

Congrats on the approval and surgery date. At least with it being so soon you (hopefully) won't go through as much of the emotional roller coaster ride the rest of us have been on! Why not excited and joyful? Because you're realizing that you're getting ready to dramatically change your life. Change can make people fearful. Overwhelmed? Yep, that too. Everything seems to be happening so fast. Dr. Patterson's office is great! We're here for you! Lori

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Lori, you are exactly right about why I'm anxious. It is a huge change and it is scary to me. I am worried about only giving two weeks notice at work that I'll be off because my job can't sit and wait for me to get back. I have to find people to cover for me. I even called Dr. Patterson's office today to see if I could get it scheduled in April, but the person I needed to talk to is out today. I do just want to get on with it though.........

sweety you deserve to take the time off and let your self do it and try not to worry about the job lets face it we are all replaceable, I have one of those jobs that only I can do and I just figured it will be here when I get back, I cant get replacements but I have great people in the office that can help me work from home I just answered messages when I felt like it and did my best to bridge the gap but you do deserve this time off and as I reminded my bosses I will be a much better employee after I am able to get this weight off!!! you might thing about having 3 weeks if you need it , I did ok with 16 days but there were a couple days early this week when I went home at lunch as I was just not quite ready for a full day right off but the last 3 have been great,, just a thought Kelly

Hi Diane. Congrats to getting approved. I'm sure feeling overwhelmed is natural. Can I ask you a question? How long did it take you to get approved? I'm new to all this, and was wondering from the time you went to the seminar til you got your approval, what was the time line? Thanks.

Nola, It took awhile. I went to the seminar in August of 06 and have been working on finishing all of my appointments since then. The surgeon's office sent my file to the insurance company for approval about two weeks ago. I was approved in one week. Then it took about two weeks for the surgeon's office to schedule the surgery. It might not take you as long, but I had to do two sleep studies and those appointments take a while. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck. Diane
