kelly, The burping means you are probably swallowing air when you are drinking. Try not to use a straw or sippy bottle if you are using those. You get a lot more air that way. Heartburn, not sure... are you on Ranitidine for 3 months 2x a day? That's what my surgeon's practice does. If it keeps on, you really might want to call your doctor's office. Good luck! Michele

Hi Kelly, Just a couple of tips from my surgeons office 1) no straws 2) if you blend a drink, be sure to let it sit a spell so all the air can escape before you drink. XX) I always try to be aware of not taking in air when I drink...it's actually becoming a habit of mine now. As far as heartburn, I wonder if you may be experiencing some acid reflux. I never had it prior to my RNY surgery and had it happen once so now I take an acid reducer daily...just over the counter that my surgeon recommended. I think I'll stay on it awhile until I feel like enough time has passed that I am willing to try to go without it. I have been told the acid reflux can happen early after surgery from the swelling within. I hope this helps you somehow. Darla

Kelly, maybe that blender your using is just getting too much air in your soup. Hope you get the problem solved. Jo Ann

I had a lap band surgery and my husband had an RNY. He had that burping thing and heartburn and his surgeon recommended an acid reducer for 6 months following surgery. It was an over the counter brand and it seemed to help him. Kathy

I tell you I sure feel ready for food!!! but I am not going to cheat. i feel very irritable today, havent taken the pain meds for 12 hours just to see how I will do without it has been 10 days, just took more, dam still to much pain, funny thing is I am not a person that usually lets pain get to me but I could rip someones head off for looking at me crooked LOL. I wanted to be back to work but the end of the week, and today I would say nots going to happen. just sittiing here long enough to answer emails is frustrating. guess today must be one of those walls that Patty talks about tomarrow will be better I am sure Kel

Kelly, I had to retrain myself to drink so I don't swallow air. It was really hard at first, but now it's habit. I put the water in my mouth and make sure no air is in there, then I push the water down the back of my throat with my tongue. Sounds strange, but it works for me. I had burping in the beginning too. It should slow down. As for heartburn, I was put on Prilosec OTC for 6 months. It's supposed to suppress the acid formation. This will help protect your stomach and areas of stitches from developing ulcers while healing. Check with your doc. I can't see where it would hurt to just take it for several months. But check. Glad to see you made it through to the loser's bench!
