First Post op appt went very well

Hi All, My staples were bothering me quite a bit so Dr. Umbach agreed I could come in 4 days early to get them out. I went in on 2/2/07 and he was pleased to see a 9 lb weight loss in the 9 full days of true post op. He told me I won't need to come bac****il my 3 months post op appt. It was nice to hear him tell me "you look great" He must have said that 3 or 4 times. The staff that was in all came out to see me and said things like "You look so good; just look at you" Sure makes a person feel good to hear that from the team that works with you to reach your goal of weight loss. Then you feel like you are not even just a number, but an individual and they all call you by your first name. If anyone wants a wonderful staff of people to work with, and to feel like they are a person that matters as an individual, I HIGHLY recommend having your surgery in Eugene, Oregon at the Oregob Bariatric Center. I could not have asked for a better and more helpful group of people to entrust with my emotions and health. I was given my wish to have WLS and by an absolutely excellent group of individuals. I have begun to bond with some of the folks in our support group and what I am now calling some of my dear friends already which has been a true blessing as well. I get all teary-eyed when I think of just how special this entire process has been (and yes, it was quite a bit of work and effort but worth every minute of it) When you hear someone say "I would do this again in a heartbeat" well, I use to think to myself, I'll see for myself, now, I can honestly say I would DEFINATELY do this again in a heartbeat I'll see many of you next time when we have the get together at Kim's on 2/17. WTG DARLA!!! And the race is on to building a new life & a new You! I'm so happy for you that everything is going so well. Keep up the good work & I hope to see you very soon. Take notes for me at the get together at Kim's! I sure do hate having to miss it, but the Planning Meeting for our Motorcycle Club rides this summer, was planned months ago on that date. Also, if I have any problems, I will have my nurse there as well (Kathy recently joined our club). I totally agree with you about the Oregon Bariatrics Center.......a bunch of great people who are very caring & helpful!! See ya soon! Jackie

Thank you Jackie. Know that you will be missed at the get together but if I was in your position, I would definately do the same. Did I tell you David is a motorcycle guy too. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets one sometime this Summer but only time will tell. I'm a great passenger too and love to ride. You just may hear from me in the future about this club you are in. I was in her office the other day and her cell phone went off and was playing some hard rock and roll. Now that's not really my kind of music but tells me she has a bit of a wild and fun side to her. Her personality definately shows a fun side too. What a kick! Yes, Jackie, we are so lucky to have the Oregon Bariatric Center in our area. First and foremost WTG Darla!! I'm excited for you and I can't wait!! And for you Jackie, well I also ride, (2000 Kaw Voyager). We may just have to get together!! Nothing like the freedom of a great ride. I am orig. from Alaska and have traveled the U.S. on my bike many times, Sturgis a few times ect. (although lil wild for me)!! I'm so happy for you Darla! Wow - nine pounds in nine days. That's excellent! Oh how I wish I could have surgery here in Eugene, but it's not to be because of my insurance. I have to admit that I was impressed with the whole group at the information seminars. But, I also like the group at OHSU. Maybe not as personalble, but I think it will be good all the same. I'm so glad you're doing well. Linda

Hi Linda, Thank you so much. I know it's hard when the insurance companies get in the way and I would have had to go elsewhere if my insurance required the center of excellence first. My mom is anxiously awaiting that to happen too. She called them a few days ago and they are predicting anywhere from 2 months to the end of this Summer which means September. I know they are trying and they are full up with surgeries each week now. Dr. Umbach also told me they have submitted the application but it is out of their control. I know our local doctors want it as badly as the rest of us do. I have been watching you progress toward your WLS journey and I wish you a speedy surgery date. I know when a person makes up their mind to do this, it's a very burning desire...it certainly is one worth going after. I feel better than I have in over 20 years and I owe it all to WLS and my competent doctors as well. Darla
