Hello all I am new to this whole thing. I recently started looking into the different options. I am within the range of being able to receive the surgery. I actually have not contacted a doctor yet. I am trying to determine if I would even be able to afford it first. I do not currently have health insurance :( I was wondering if anyone knew if the Oregon health plan OHP would pay for it? I think I would be able to receive OHP if I applied for it as a single mother.
Let me know
Brandy I too questioned this, I did call the center for Bariatric Excellence, I thought maybe since Medicare was now covering this surgery that perhaps they would soon begin (Oregon Medicaid OHP) I've called 3 times now and they've never returned my call...so I am assuming that they don't allow it yet...I hope soon though...I am in a similar situation as you, I am not a single Mom, but I qualify for surgery hands down...no Insurance though, I do have Medicaid OHP, right now my husbands WOrk doesn't have INS...and I have 4 boys...I keep trying though, while you are looking at options, start learning about everything you can...it is what I do..>I get frustrated at times because I know this is what I need, but I try not to give up!! Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. I will keep looking into it and see what I can do. I checked around on the prices if I was paying cash. However, it seems like the price range for lap band varies so much I am too confused as to why this is. I dont see how it goes from as much as 11k to 25k! Ridiculous.
I guess they figure they can charge what they want?? I honestly haven't checked into Lap band, I've wanting the RNY now for about 2 1/2 yrs...but I do know or should say have read that a lot of ppl. have gone out of U.S to have their surgeries done because of price...might be an option for you....could always check into it...take care and best of luck.
