Hey all--have a question about weight and the process before surgery?

Was told that I would have to lose 10lbs. I'm waiting for a consult with either Dr. Jan, Dr. Hong, or Dr Petterson (don't care which). Does my weight need to be losed prior to that consult or just prior to the surgery date when I get one. Also--for those of you who had either (Dr. Hong, Dr. Jan, or Dr. Petterson) before you select which surgion you want do they let you know what the waiting period is for each one. I read awesome stuff about them all. Hoping to get my surgery date in mid July to go along with scheduled vactions and baseball tournaments. Please holla back--I'm excited about completing this process. The waiting is a killer--would love to hear from someone whose ahead of me in this process that can let me know what to expect. Thanks so much--Steph

They require that you lose 10% of your excess weight, not 10 pounds (unless your excess weight happens to be 100 pounds). I, however, was unable to manage that loss and they still did the surgery. I had Dr. Jan do the surgery because Dr. Patterson was booked out the furthest, then Dr. Hong and, finally, Dr. Jan. The office is great and the employees are helpful. I'm not completely certain that your timeline will be accurate, though. I first attended my informational meeting in June. I had my consult in July (nutritionist, psychologist and surgeon) and had to wait until the paperwork made its way through the insurance process. My surgery wasn't until October -- 4 months after the initial meeting. That being said, stranger things have been known to happen.

Thanks--for the info. I weighed in at 289 during my appointments, which is a lose of 10 to 15lbs over the past few months. The nutitionist told me that I would need to lose 10 to 15 lb more prior to surgery, but since I'd already lost the 10-15 already she said shoot for 10lb, which was awesome to hear. I have BC/BS Federal Insurance and they aren't requiring any weight lose according the the nutitionist (Yeah). My timeline: info. meeting in March 2006 2-day tests: June 2 & 6, 2006 Sleep test: Scheduled for June 14th

Hey Steph, I'm sure you will go sailing through with flying colors. Keep us posted as to when your surgery date is. I come through your way every now and then as I have good friends in Goldendale. We try to get together at least once a year or so. The last time we met was down here on my turf so it's my turn to go up there. Will make a circle up to Yakima and over to my home town of Centralia and back down. Love Goldendale! Very pretty. A bit remote though LOL. Pat
