Finally Got My Date!!!!

I work for the state and I finally got approved though the BCBS insurance. Kammie at Dr. Jan's office was very helpful in making this happen so quick for me. My surgery date is June 23rd and I am getting so nervous but very excited that I am going to be able to start a new way of life.

Hi Michelle, Can you tell me how long after you meet with the surgeon did you find out if your insurance approved you and how far out the surgery date was from your approval date. I am also a state employee with BCBS insurance and am scheduled to see the surgeon on Wednesday morning for my consult. Thanks

Well I met the surgeon on May 22nd, my paperwork was submitted to BCBS on June 5th and I found out I was approved on June 8th. When I left the surgeon's office on May 22nd Dr. Jay had me schedule a tenative surgery date for June 23rd. So I actually found out I was approved about 2 weeks before my surgery date. The surgeon's office staff were a real big help with helping get the insurance through. Just make sure that you have the 5% weight loss documented and that those ducuments are within the last few months. Most of my weight loss (20lbs) was in November 2005 and my dates for allowable weight loss were from mid December 2005 to present. So I had to scramble to try and find some other documented weigh ins at a higher weight to show that 5% loss even though I have actually lost a total of 30lbs but 20lbs of that didn't count.

Awesome Michelle!!!!! I'm so happy for you--I can't wait til I get a date. I have BC/BS Federal--is that the same as State. (Just wondering so I can compare you timeline)
