I am 11 months post op and I just back from San Antonio Texas and the last day I was there I started getting a fever and chills and pain in my left side of my stomach. Is it possible to have developed a leak this late into Post op? I went to the ER cause my temp has been running between 101-104.8 They said I have a mild case of Pneumonia, they loaded me up with antibiotics and sent me home. When I left I still had a low grade temp of 100.7 does anyone have any suggestions on if it could be a leak? Thanks Jim

Jim, Sorry you feel bad. What did the ER do? they did CXR....right? which would show the pneumonia. Any symptoms you have except fever and left stomach pain? You could run fever 24 to 36 hrs after antibiotic starts, but then if you have a fever...you chould be rechecked. Stomach wise, are you eating okay? nausea? pooping okay? Did they do a cat scan.? Did they check your urine, for infection or kidney stone? Relax, take deep breathe, do you feel better at all? You need to listen to your body, and follow up with this esp with your surgeon. Surgery wise that give peice of mind. Pneumonia....usually have fever, pain, in chest, maybe low in back side...where lung is. not usually belly pain. usually not nausea. Most times, not always...a cold or something to lead up to this. I am a ER nurse . You have done the right thing to get checked at once, do not let up. If worse today...go back. You can always find out if your surgeon is on call...or his partner....daytime hours...is always a plus...even if its a sunday!! Goodluck Sandy
