I am trying to have RNY and have been following all the guidelines(i think) I met with the surgeon went to the educational seminars, had my psych eval and today went to the pulmonary doc(my initial surgeon consult told me i needed to)any way it has all gone really well!!!! The psych doc cleard me, the pulmonary doc said i dont even need a sleep study. I am working really hard at my 10% (down 14 out of a total of 26 i need to loose). My next appt is not unitil i see the dietician next week. I guess my question is will i have more appts??? i ready all these posts about people having cardiology appts, stress tests, and the lsit goes on. I dont have any of these scheduled am i missing something here. Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi .. welcome to the boards!  I just went through everything and it's real fresh .. but I have lapband not RNY .. I had to do pulmonary, psych, dietician, cardic and primary care doc's for insurance company.  My surgeon prepared a list .. I did have to have an ultrasound of the gall bladder and a stress test and echo-cardiogram from cardic doc.  Meetings help .. ask them for a note showing that you attended.  I also needed a letter from my primary doc recommeding that I have the surgery.  I already had sleep apnea .. so no sleep test was needed.  Contact your insurance company they will give a list of their requirements!!  I hope this helps ...Good Luck!! bigron -->soon to be Ron

Hi Ron: Thanks so much for responding! I guess i just am getting a little paranoid! I knew i could skip the gallbladder ultra sound, i had that out years ago!!! Who knew it would help me now!  Meetings  i am missing! I need to get to them(well 2 are required) and i know once i get there ill like them. But everything else seems to going smooth! My primary doc is awesome and has helped me so much, i just keep waiting for that moment of complete panic. Its funny i have all these friends that i have known forever and not one (well one) understands my decission to have this surgery . Yet i come on this site and people like your self who dont even know me , take time to help everyone else out. its seems so sureal to me! so incredibly cool but suireal!  i wish you a quick and happy recovery!  karen

No problem .. you will find some good folks around here.  They were a wonderful resource when I was starting my journey. There's so much involved ... and so much required .. as most have said talk to your doc, or insurance company for more detailed info!  Keep us posted... bigron -->soon to be Ron!

Hello and Welcome :o)  Each surgeon has different pre-op requirtements, your best bet would be to call your surgeon's office and ask your question. My surgeon gave me a check list of my pre op requirements. sounds like you are on the right path  best of luck to you, Britt

yes...every surgeon does things different.  The crazy part is usually the 10 days before surgery.  You have to go to you primary, have the pre-op tests, etc.  All the hoopla is worth it...Good Luck! Rosemary

Just go with the flow and stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. As everyone said, there are different  requirements from different surgeons. I imagine that your co-morbitities related to weight have a lot to do with what tests are determined. You are doing fine. It's all very exciting and will be very worth it at the end.

I would call your surgeon and ask him because most will send you on a  cardiac stress test etc. Most surgeons want to be as thorough as possible. Stress tests are important to make sure your heart is well enough to stand major surgery. Call them Monday.
