Surgery Deductible??

Well, after 2 weeks of waiting for a call from my surgeons office to see what was going on with my insurance approval, i decided to call the insurance co. myself. I figured that since i will be having surgery in 2 1/2 weeks, i'd like to know if it is being paid for lol. Well, they told me I was approved!!  YAY!!!  One step closer.. but then they told me i had a $500 surgery deductible that would be collected by the hospital at the time of surgery.  After all of my educational sessions and meeting people who went through the surgery and reading all the posts here, i never heard anyone mention that they had to pay a deductible for their surgery. I'm not upset about it. I mean $500 to save my life sounds like a pretty good deal to me !!  I was just curious if anyone else ran into this. My insurance is with CDPHP by the way.   Thanks everyone!

Hi,  Yes I have a $500 hospital copay when I have my surgery in December so your not alone. I agree with you $500 to save my life is more then worth it, especially when so many people are denied coverage I am greatful.  Congrats on your upcoming surgery good luck to you.

Congrats on the approval!!!  I have Excellus BXBS and never paid a penny for anything other than monthly appts with my surgeon's office.  It must be individual to insurances.

Congrats on your approval!!!! It's exciting, isn't it?!! I just had my surgery this passed Monday & I can't believe I actually did it!!! I have MVP & I did not have to pay one blessed penny towards the surgery!!! But even if I did have a co-pay like you do I would agree with you... $500 to save my life is such a small price to pay!!!! I will be reminded of that some time tonight when my sisters & 3 yr old niece come to stay with me for the weekend. She is one of the reasons I did this!!! She knows I had some kind of surgery & is coming to "take care of me" so how can you put a price on that, right?  She's bringing her dr kit & all!! I can't wait!!! Good luck to you!!! I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers!! Cece

I have fabulous insurance and I didn't have to pay a penny.  I was very lucky, but I know some policies have a deductible.  I know $500 seems like a lot, but trust me, it will be worth it.  Good Luck! Rosemary

I , too, had to fork over $500.00. I got the bill last week as a matter of fact. I was surprised...guess I didn't read the small print! It's not a little bit of money, but I gained so much more in my life. Well worth the price.
