OT - Capital Region tribute/benefit concert Sat 9/29

Raif Pomeroy was a brilliant soul with a poetic musical gift. His music touched many across all ages and social classes. Tragically, he was prematurely taken from this earth on 7/22/07 doing something he loved, and often wrote about... Diving the deep blue of the Bahamas.
Sadly, he left behind a young son Joseph. An account for donations has been set up in his son's name. The purpose of this myspace page is to get the word out in my organizing a Raif tribute benefit show in the NY Capital Region... a place where Raif spent several years pouring his heart out honing his craft, generating a loyal following, and making many friends along the way. When he left the east coast in search of better things in California, many were sad that he was leaving, yet at the same time excited at what new creations would be brought out by his new environment.... and boy did we get an earful. The result was the band Ballyrag http://www.ballyrag.com and http://www.myspace.com/ballyrag ... Raif, along with 2 (an occasional 3rd and 4th) other musicians melded together to compliment each other like peanut butter and jelly. In their time together, they released 2 great albums "Waxing Poetic" and "Where the Ocean Meets 10"... both available through their website at www.ballyrag.com
got off track for a second... sorry. Anyway, as sad as we were to see him leave back in 1999, we knew we would still be hearing from him in one way or another... and we did. He even made a visit back here and dragged the rest of Ballyrag with him to perform for us. Sadly, he is gone now, and any new music is only what might be in a possible upcoming release from Ballyrag. In the mean time, there is a big void in both our hearts and ears.
This tribute/benefit will be taking place at the Last Resort Lounge on Broadway in Schenectady. Saturday, September 29th from 9:00 to 1:00 (or thereabouts)
$5.00 cover - all proceeds to benefit Raif's son Joe

What's going to happen at this tribute show? hopefully some laughter, possibly some tears, but mostly friends and fans getting together to celebrate the LIFE and MUSIC of Raif... Musicians performing Raif songs, some in their own interpretations, some "note for note"... whatever the case, it will be a bit of final closure for those of us who weren't fortunate enough to get that one last show, one last goodbye.
