Does anyone walk with weights? I've been thinking about doing it during my walking routine, so over the weekend I gave it a try. It was much harder but I was able to make it 3 miles with all this weight. I think I had too much for my first time though. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg170/jackcallen4/Walking .jpg

That's a baby right?    It kinda looks like a stuffed animal.   :)

I don't run with weights but I can't see how it will hurt.

Actually that is a stuffed animal.  When they let me out of the center, I have to have it with me or else I get mad and tear people's arms off.  Yeah a baby.  See: http://www.obesityhelp.com/myoh/albumId,32007/uzone,photos/a ction,gallery/curPhoto,224450/

I could see that helping, yes.  But, if it is too hard, just ditch the weight and keep walking!  Walk Walk walk, my friend!

All I have heard is that it does burn quite a few more calories and that it probably adds some core and balance training to the mix.

A fitness professor at Virginia Commonwealth University researched heavy hands years ago. His name is Wajiehowsky (sp?). According to him it was better than either walking or jogging, but you are not supposed to go over 1-2 lbs or so of weight, because this might cause a repetitive stress injury.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Jack, Way cute kiddoes! Great motivation for Dad to keep walking! I used 2.5lb then 5lb ankle weights for about 2 years. They made “Normal Walking” and then running, feel like I could fly! I would sometimes just keep them on under my pants legs For the majority of the day. Every little bit helps! Best Wishes- Dx

Way to go, Jack!  I think if you're too tired with that much weight, walk a little shorter distance and work your way up.  On the other hand, if you made it that far this time without too much difficulty, it should be easier next time around.

Sounds like you're doing great.  Cute kids, too.

Best wishes,

MLF

i wore leg weights after about the first week of surgery...  My dr. said it was better exercise then going to the gym....was a major part of my success..
