HI guys, been working out for the last three months doing a lot of treadmill work. Just started running lately. Went to work out this evening and ran three miles without stopping. I start out slow at about 4.5 mph and ended up the last 1/4 mile at 7mph. Of course I walk a 1/4 of a mile to warm up and at mile to bring the heart rate down slowly.  A year ago the only thing I could run was my grandson's bath. I know I could have went farther if I had stayed at a slower pace, but I like to really crank up the heart rate before I slow it down at the end of my work out. pan head

Hell of a deal. The last time I remember jogging was in about '88 or '89 and I weighed under 250 at the time. I hadn't really thought about jogging again at my age. I figure 20 years of being over weight might have worn my knees out enough that I don't need any additional pounding. But then I get on here and see a bunch of you old farts have taken it up again. So who knows? I remember that I used to get kind of restless with just walking the few times in my adult life that I've been non-obese.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Never would have dreamed a year ago at 324 when I had surgery that in 13 months I could be running three miles again. My knees  and back use to kill me. I have built up to it slowly, but there have been times when I have been walking that I have so much energy, I thought man I just feel like running. Got fit for a good pair of shoes and now I am giving it a try.  As far as the old fart thing, I qualify for that I guess, I will turn fifty on the 25th. But I am healthier than I have ever been.  pan head

Way to go man, Keep up the good work and if you have a bike I bet you a penny you will slow down riding it so much in order to pound the pavement on foot more. As for my running the only time I run is to get across the street fast enough to keep the cars off me. I swear I look like im in slow motion except I jiggle like jello in alot of places. It wont be long till you start racking up double digit miles.

If your talking about motorcycles I have two harley's. A 99 ultra and a 58 pan head, same as the little pic at the bottom where my ticker is. I ride every chance I get, but I will also make time to work out also. I have now made it a part of my routine. pan head

Way to Go!! Awesome ain’t it? Only thing I would add? KEEP IT UP! I was up to 3 (even 4) miles quite regularly the summer I had my PS. I stopped to re-coop, and it has taken me  2 years to get back to doing it. Not that I wasn't "Able to," (that I could do a few months after PS) But finding the "Joy of Running" again? Still haven’t gotten it back yet. While you’re running, keep that honeymoon going! I’m just now getting back to adding about 5 miles of running a week To my typical walking. Congratulations! KEEP IT UP!! Best Wishes- Dx

Just great to hear you are doing so well.  When you share things like this it really helps us newer guys who are just starting out to see what can happen if we stick to the program.  Really glad for you!!!!!!!!!

Great job keeping that bar held up for the rest of us Panhead. I'm almost a year out and even though I routinely go 6 miles on an elliptical, I havn't dared jog or even use a treadmill yet for fear of hurting my knees again. they feel great now and I just don't want to (scared) do anything to change that. would like to try to jog someday though.

Great job Pan Head!

I've found my Garmin Forerunner 50 a great running motivator.   I have the heart rate monitor and foot pod that tracks my mileage, cadence, speed and heart rate among other things.   It even has a sensor that attaches to my bike to log mileage and such as well.   My girlfriend got it for me for Christmas and I couldn't be more happy with it.
