Stress test shows heart blockage.

As some of you already know I have been have had a few problems in the last few months with pain in my chest and dizzy spells while lifting weights. The first diagnosis was an irregular heartbeat and they gave me Atenolol. They started me off on 25 mg per day and it worked for about a month then I had another attack and they upped the dosage to 100 mg per day and it has been working so far. However as a precaution due to the fact I am scheduled to have my hernia repair and skin removal (panniculectomy) surgery done on February 14, 08, they decided to send me to have a stress test on my heart to make sure my heart is ok for surgery. Late last night I got a call from the hospital telling me the test results showed a moderate to severe blockage in my heart. So on Tuesday I have to report to the hospital for an angiogram and right after the test is done I will be admitted for treatment. I hope they can clear this up quickly so I can still have my surgery in February. I think they have wifi access in the hospital so I can post from the hospital, if not I will post when I get back home. This really sucks, all my life I have been overweight and even at my highest weight I never had any problems with my heart, now I have lost weight, eat healthy, exercise, I am in the best physical shape I have ever been in in my entire life and NOW I have problems with my heart. Well I use to joke that if I ever hit my goal weight with my luck I would get run over by a bus. I guess this is close enough.

Wow I'am sorry to hear that. At least the found it early so they can treat it. I'll be praying that all goes well for you and you can still get surgery.  Derrick

I'm not a doctor but I would seriously consider taking L-Arginine daily.....maybe twice a day.  In fact I do take it daily.  It is not cheap but my doctor recommends it highly.  Check out Dr. Joe Prendergast on the web and what he has to say about it.  It takes a pretty high dose to work but I'm convinced that it does some good.....even has some of the effects of Viagara type drugs with no prescription.  Here is one link to one of his articles. http://www.endocrinemetabolic.com/about/press/larginine.pdf

You have to realize that atherosclerosis starts when you're born, will be aggravated or accelerated by poor diet, elevated blood cholesterol and obesity, and won't necessarily reverse completely within only a few years after weight loss and proper diet. My SO has never been overweight, visits the gym regularly, and never ever had any symptoms of coronary artery disease, but last year he had a mild heart attack, followed by a emergency angiogram and installation of two stents.  Luckily, he's back to normal, fully 100%, just as he was before, with no symptoms or any indication that he ever had the heart attack to begin with. I know this sounds like "tough love", but having this noticed ahead of time after a stress test means that you're LUCKY, not UNLUCKY.  You dodged a bullet, and are having the problem taken care of before it impacts your health.  And I would expect after this, that your chest pain and dizzy spells during exercise will be a thing of the past. /Steve

Alan, Look at it this way:   WLS brought you to the point where you had the oportunity to have this checked out.  Many people never have this much initiative and have major events.   Stay strong, follow through on whatever the docs tell you.  Because, in reality, you will be in the best shape of your life AFTER your procedure. Good Luck! Guy
