Progress Report
Hey, Guys!
Been a while since I've posted / followed the boards, so I figured for those of you *****member me, I'd post up a pogress report.
So .. been since probably August / September sometime since I've posted.
I'm still hovering around 280. That's down roughly 372 lbs from my beginning weight of 652.
I've had another surgery in November to remove some of the excess lymphatic tissue on my lower left leg. I was getting cellulitis infections in that leg about once a week, even on antibiotics. So far, since I had the surgery on November 7th, I've only had one infection, and it was fairly mild and went away right away, and has stayed away. So hopefully this means I'm ont he road to finally stopping the damn things. They're going to remove a bit more tissue on that leg, and I'm going to start going to a lymphedema clinic. So hopefully, that'll fix it. I have hope based on the progress I've made sof ar.
I'm almost finished with my MCSA. Then I'm going to go on and get my Ethical Hacker certification, and get a job somewhere in network security. I'm also working on getting certified with Adobe products (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc) so I can work on designing secure websites on the side.
Meanwhile - my wife is not only working on her RN, but she's going to have WLS on January 23rd. We're really excited, as she's a type II diabetic, and in most cases, this cures it. I'm actually planning on going through the post-op stages with her of liquid, pureed, and normal food stages just as a "pouch test" and to get any last bit of weight off of me.
Then, hopefully late summer or early fall, I'll go in and have a hernia repiar done and start the process of skin removal.
Take of 372 lbs, and let's see you NOT look like a Sharpei puppy, eh?
So - overall - things are going absolutely great. I'm excited for my wife, and I'm excited about our future.
I may not be posting here as much as I used to, but that's primarily because we're so busy that I just don't have a lot of time. Life happens. But, you all are welcome to PM me and I'll get back to you first chance I get.
Hopefully, the Men's Board stays what it is for those who are just starting out.
Phenominal story Dave. What a ride you have had. DOn't worry about the timeframe of posts. You didn't foget about usand yyou shared your experience and success to date. Thats what we are all about here to inspire and encourage others that can gleen wisdom for your adventure and to hel pu s see we don't all have a free ride without hitches but we can tie a knot in our rope and hold on and things have a way of working out one way or another. KInda like DXe a while back and Bob M now. Youhave come a long way. I am really glad for you that yuor wife is going to share in your adventure and youcan do it together now. That will really bring you guys even closer, I would think.
Hope you have a terrific future.
You truely are an inspiration to me! Someone who was 397 at his highest weight I worry about how much weight I can lose. If you can do it I know I can! I'm proud of you and your wife! I think it shows total support that you're going to go through the post op phases with her.
Take care and keep me posted!
Jamie
I'm always especially interested when I read posts from people who started out as being super morbidly obese. My BMI was in the mid 80s when I had WLS. I also have severe LE on my right leg. I've had several people ask why don't I have much of it surgically removed. Your post has me seriously thinking about that possibility. I was advised against it when I was first diagnosed over 10 years ago but, apparently, the thinking on that may have change.
For anyone else with LE, check out Amy Williams' profile since she has many links to Lymphedema sites.
