What do you eat? (5 months post op)

Hey guys!  Long time reader, occasional poster. 5 Months out, down 117 pounds as of this morning.   Here is the prob.  For the past 2 months I have lived on a diet of turkey chili (that I make) for lunch and dinner, and some yogurt with some protein cereal for breakfast.  I  LOVE to cook, and keep trying new things, but everything just tastes TERRIBLE! I guess it isn't a major problem.  I am a bachelor and eating the same thing every night doesn't really bother me.  But what are you all eating?  I can hardly stand chicken anymore, aside from an occasional roasted one.  It seems everything I do make gets wasted because I can eat so little, and don't like most of it anyway. Looking for some ideas is all.  Thanks again fellas.

I am 5 months out also.  I like the occasional bean burrito.  I do really well on green salads with a fat free dressing.  I love to make home made soups.  split pea, 14 bean etc.  they are very appetizing.  I can eat about 1 cup in a meal.  I don't eat much meat, never have.  I will have 2 to 3 ounces of chicken breast, ham, or lean ground beef. I have switched all my buying to low fat, high protien, and my 9 year old daughter has lost 6 pounds because of this. I also eat fruit and nuts. the kevinator

Do you like seafood?  I eat of lot of fish now and my pouch likes it.  It is also high in protein. I also enjoy a small piece of steak once in awhile.  You must chew really well though.  Chef's salads with deli cold cuts and cheese are nice.  I had turkey breast for supper tonight with low fat gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies. Also, see my response to Dale's message below.  He is only at 6 weeks, but you can eat those things as well.

I did scrambled eggs, lots of refried beans,  I then made extra thick spaghettid sauce with lots of beef. It seemed to work for  a while.  20 months post and still cannot tolerate more than a bite or two of chicken.  it used to be 2 breasts and I was off to the races.

Thanks for your thoughts fellas.  I wish I liked seafood more than I do.  I like sushi, but without the rice.  I will have to think about making some really thick spaghetti sauce.  Eggs gross me out anymore just thinking about them.  I guess your palette (sp?)  really does change quite a bit.  I am just so tired of making something only to throw it all our after just a couple of bites.  I threw out an entire salmon filet after I just could not stomach it.  Can't find out unless I try though...eh?

I'm eight months out and generrally eat whatever I want. I even have a little fried food. If you never liked meat or eggs or fish I feel for you.Protein is the most important food and you can't eat turky chilie the rest of your life.Your taste buds will eventually return to normal and you need to return to normal except eating much less drinking the right drinks and exercise. I'm not talking down to you let the tool work and have a great life!! Good Luck Randy

I am about 4.5 months out and similar to you. I generally eat chilli, soups and salads.  I can't eat chicken of fish.  Ground hamburger and well cooked roast work as well. Taco's are easy. Chunky soup is good if you get one without alot of potatos or pasta, plus they have alot of protein. My main staple is beef jerky though. Tons of protein low fat, and no carbs. I bring a bag to work with me every day and just snack on it as I go. 1/4 pound bag is 40-50 g protein. My problem is that I get dumping syndrome very easy. I don't like sugar so that's no problem but potatoes or other starches kill me even in small doses. That just started about 3 weeks ago and aI hope it stops soon. Hope you don't have this issue. Good luck man!

I don't know whether I'm lucky or unlucky but I'm a little shy of 7 weeks out and I haven't found very many protein rich foods I can't eat yet. The only ones that have bothered me are chicken breast, turkey breast, and shrimp. All three of those are so dry and fat free that they feel like wood chips when they hit the pouch, and after a bite or two I get the distinct feeling that another bite will result in a heave. The only suggestion I have to offer is to make some tuna salad with tuna, eggs, pickle relish, and low-cal  Miracle Whip. The Miracle whip has 1.5 grams of fat and 20 calories per 2 tablespoons IIRC. Eight or nine days out when I was still fearful of what I could eat and what I couldn't eat, I made some tuna salad, slimy from the MW, and got it down fine. I'd go nuts if  I had to eat the same thing every day. That's why I could only stay on Atkins for about 6 wks.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
