What is your 'go to' food now?

OK, at almost 6 weeks out, scramble eggs, canned tuna and chicken (mixed with light or fat free dressing) have become my 'go to' foods that taste good, and don't upset my tummy.  Some soft lean cold cuts and cheese work well, as well as corn flakes.   I found baby carrots work fine if I chew well for a snack. Most other stuff seems to sit like a lump (see other post...  ) bananas went down fine.. but oh the gas.. LOL>.. What are some of your fav's? Dale

Hey Dale, Still about 5 weeks pre-op, so my goto foods are whatever I want, but... How's the weight loss going?  Do you ever feel "light-headed" on so few calories? I've been trying to follow the liquid diet on a M-F schedule (much easier to control when I'm at work) but I get so light headed by lunch I have started wondering how it's going to feel when I'm post-op.  I've been doing 2 scoop shakes for breakfast, 1 scoop for lunch, then some broth with unflavored protein for dinner.  I'm loading up on the protein, but my body misses the carbs. Thanks for any response. Guy

Guy, I learned real quick that 3 meals doesn't cut it.  I have to have 5-6 meals, just like the doc said.. go figure.. LOL.  If I don't eat for about 3 hours, I get a kind of sick feeling.. not quite light headed, not quite dizzy, just no energy, and I know it's time to eat.  At first I thought my blood sugar was dropping as I'm slightly hypoglycemic, but it was fine.. it's just the energy level bottoms out.    I did the same on my liquid phase.  Had a drink about every 2 to 3 hours, just a smaller drink.  That way it's more evened out, and you don't starve in between.  So far, what works best is about 200 calories or so every 2-3 hours.  I'm not hungry then, and my energy level stays up. Dale (edited.. forgot to answer your other question!... as of week 5 I'd lost 65 pounds.  I weigh in again tomorrow at my 6 week check up.)

Awesome on the weight loss!  Keep it up. I'll have to try and program myself to do the drinks every 3 hours, that might help.  (maybe there's a watch out there or I can use MS Outlook to remind me.   Good luck man.  My day is coming. Guy

Cooked spinach or broccoli.  All new food items, just taste for a minute or two.  Your pouch will tell you if it likes it or not.  Also if your pouch rejects an item, don't eliminate it.  Wait a few months and try that item again.  The pouch will change with time too.  A lot of trial and error.  If you can handle beef, you might want to try that too.  Just alittle.  Pork and lamb are hard to digest.  I would wait along time before I would try those.  Wendi's Chili or Taco Bell's Pinto and Beens may be good too.  Brian

Dale, At 6 weeks I was able to eat a small Wendy's chile with cheese.  I also bought cans of non fat refried beans and heated a portion in the microwave.  That tasted great to me at that time.  I even have it now frequently.  You can melt some cheese in it for more protein. Yogurt, sugar free tapioca pudding, light cream cheese on a cracker (possibly with some smoked salmon), light cottage cheese with some fruit. It gets much better as you go forward.

Some how I have become hooked on Life high protien cereal.  combined with low fat milk it is loaded with protien. It has gotten to the point were I feel "wrong" if I don't have a bowl fo rbreakfast.  I sometimes have one for my after dinner snack as well. This is something I would have never eaten before my surgery. I actually get excited when it goes on sale or/and I have a coupon.  LOL  I know my life is pretty starnge right now. jim d

Dale, I remember at 6 weeks out eating alot of Wendy's chili, protein shakes, peanut butter, shrimp, crabmeat, not much else.  I had many more options, but everything I tried to eat I didnt care for anymore.  I've gotten alot of those tastes back now.  I used to love sausage pre-op, but now I cant stand it.   Same with chicken, though I can tolerate that better than sausage. Good luck to you.  It sounds like you are on the right track. John
