Cornwall & Area WLS Support Group Monthly Meeting Sunday, January 13, 2008 2:00pm - 4:00pm Knox St. Paul Church (corner of Second and Sydney) 108 Second Street, East Cornwall, Ontario Use the parking lot on Second Street. Enter the door at 110; turn right and go through the door and down the ramp. Turn right again and go straight down the hall to the last meeting room on the right hand side. Agenda: Since this is our first meeting, it will be a greet and meet meeting. Also, an open discussion will follow with plans on future topics. Everyone welcome. Hope we have a good turn out.

Do you have any surgeons in the Cornwall area? Are your members heading to Toronto or Montreal for surgery?

Hi Dany, No surgeons in Cornwall that do the WLS stuff. We get set down to the US. Our OHIP that's our Provincial health plan seams to think it's cheaper to send us there than say to Quebec or Manitoba. Best yet would be to develop and maintain clinics here is Ontario. I actually got my surgery in Toronto. I lived in Toronto for several years before moving to Montreal and this is where I've had put my name on a waiting list.

I just couldn't afford to start back at the bottom of the list in Quebec and have to wait an additional 5-7 years so when I got the call from Toronto, I paid the bills and I'll still waiting to see if I'll ever see the money back for my surgery and my wife surgery... but lets face it.... it cost less money to get the surgery than to get a coffin!

Its all worth it...

Wow, I thought the wait times in Quebec was just months not years!! The reason I am going to the US is because the Doctors tell me I cannot wait 2 to 3 years for surgery. I will be dead by then. So they applied to ohip and my surgery was slotted in for Feb 29-08. Much< much quicker. Upo see I have Diabeties as well as some other **** because of the weight. I am now very prone to infection. So much so I got an infection in my left testie last april and it got swollen up like a football. They had to amputate it in the end..No Saving it. The Doctors tell me that toes, Legs..etc are next.. After I get my WLS Done my diabeties and other stuff should go into remission. thus I live longer with most of my parts!! That's the plan anyway. So What operation did you get and how much have you lost so far? Ed. S

I got the VSG (sleeve). Did very well for the first 60 days. I was down 57 pounds in 58 days... Just came back home from 10 days off at the in-laws. I tought I would have to do damage control since I had a hard time managing the food that was infront of me.

Since October 15, I'm down 60 pounds (with about 2 pounds over the last 10 days). Since meeting the surgeon in July, I'm down 85 pounds and I'm having a blast.

Hey that's great!! You couln't ask for better than that! I'm at 527 Lbs now. I was at 650 lbs at my largest 5 years ago. 327 lbs to go! I got a ways to go yet. Well I'm off to bed. Time to put my elephant mask on!!(CPAP) Take Care and lets talk again soon! We only live about an hours drive apart!! Ed. S
