I need a toast?

Hi guys, this has nothing to do with WLS. My daughter is getting married tomorrow. Nothing big, very small, just close family, maybe 15 people at the most. My wife told me that I will have to give a toast after the wedding. It doesn't bother me to speak in front of people so that is not the problem. But my wife doesn't want me to say "take care of her or I will come and choke the **** out of you", although I have tried to get that across already and I think he understands. I know alot of you guys here are rather well traveled and are alot more eloquent than I. So if you have a suggestion I would love to hear it. If you want to private message me that would be great.  pan head

My guess is your like me and not open with your feelings very often. (Can't let the macho image down)  But I would encourage you to put all that aside and speak from the heart.  Let your daughter know how much you care for her and that you want her to be happy.  At the same time this will give her new husband the message about what she means to you and he better treat her extra special. Congrats on the marriage of your daughter and make sure to hide your wallet

In the great words of Bill Engvall: "Boy, look at me. You see that little girl there? That's my only little girl. She's my life. So if you have any thought about hugging or kissing, you remember these words: I got no problem going back to prison." (in all seriousness, my Dad's ringtone on his cell phone for my sister is the country music song I LOVED HER FIRST by HEARTLAND.  Look it up for some inspiration.)

Pan Head, I don't know any good toast for your daughter's wedding.  The best advice I can give you is to speak from the heart and let your daughter know how much you love her.  And by the way, it is great to meet a fellow mountaineer here also.  Congratulations on your daughter's wedding.  I hope you have many many grand kids!

Congratulations Proud Dad. Tough! So glad I have only a son. You have to pay for the event, And refrain from saying- "Treat Her Better Than I would or I’ll have to Kill You and Hide the Body." I have only served as a "Best Man" but here’s some info available for free on the web…

MarthaStewart’sWeddingToastAdvice But Way better is- About.com’s-Advice-to-the-Father-of-The-Bride They tend to allow 2 to 5 minutes for the toast. Bullch*t! Keep it under a Minute and a Half. Everyone will be pleased. A Quote I have used I the past as a Best Man, (and it seemed appropriate…& ‘well-received’) "May you always need one another - Not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you know your fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be complete; the valley does not make the mountain less, but more; and the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain at its side. So let it be with you and you." Best Wishes! Dx

Pan Head, Congratulations! New Years Day is symbolic of new beginnings, as is your daughter's wedding.  That might be a good theme to develop into a toast. You can start with saying something about your marriage, her birth, her first day of school, etc.  And, now, this big step...marriage. Looking into the future, you might want to wish that she be blessed with many children and enjoy raising them as much as you enjoyed raising her. Good luck.

NOW....Do not take this the wrong way...think about it for a moment. I was wished on my wedding day and have wished others now that this "wedding Day" be the unhappiest day of their lives. Think about it.   It is a great sentiment. Gary

I like the Bill I. quote.

Also like the 'unhappiest day' idea. It is a good thought.

Congrats on the wedding.
