IMPORTANT QUESTION
Matthew,
“What is wrong with me ?”
Sounds like you had Bariatric Surgery Last week to me.
Not to worry, liquids do go right on through,
And thirst and hunger trigger the same feelings,
So try staying super hydrated for now.
Once you move on to solids, you’ll be able to feel full again.
One other thought…
“CAN drink a 11oz protein shake in about 15 min ?”
I CAN eat a quarter pounder with cheese, and an order of fries,
But I don’t.
These first weeks SUK!
It Gets easier. Much!
But use these first 6 months to set habits
And the following 4 years can be a breeze!
If you find yourself “Testing” to see what you “CAN” consume,
Soon enough you’ll learn
that you “Can” always consume more than you should.
The “old habits” won’t be severed by the surgery
or your lifestyle change.
Even people who have very distal RNY’s or DS procedures
And mal-absorb most of the fat calories consumed
Can find themselves eating
and absorbing the full calorie content of too many sweets
3 years post-op, still 30 lbs from goal
and wondering where the surgery failed them…
Don’t be that guy!
Get in your water, and then your protein, and follow your doctor’s protocol.
11oz of a liquid in 15 minutes doesn’t seem that far beyond the norm,
But take it very easy with that new sutured set of guts for a while.
The signals from the stomach at one week out are typically
Non-existent due to tissue trauma from the surgery.
However, “Head-Huger”
or the psychological sense of deprivation and “hunger”
Are typically the strongest during the first weeks after surgery.
Check and see if you really feel “hunger pains”
or if your system is wanting and craving
More hydration, and that sensation
is being interpreted by your psyche as “Hunger.”
I have no idea,
just sharing what I have seen from folks on these boards over the last 5+years.
Hang in there. Those first weeks are the worst.
Best Wishes-
