Vision Problems

Hey Guys...
Lookin for some input, here.

Over the past few months, I've been experiencing progressively worsening double vision.
So, yesterday I visited an Neuro Opthamologist.
At first, she seemed seriously concerned about it and had me do a "field of vision" test. After passing it with flying colors, her mood softened a bit. She told me that if I had failed this test, she would have scheduled an immediate MRI to "Look at my brain".

Apparently, vision problems are not all that uncommon for post-WLS folks... largely due to Vitamin A or B1 deficiencies.
So, I'm gonna get some bloodwork done to check it out and go back to the Dr in a month.

Hopefully, it's a quick-fix and not some big deal thing.
Strange that this would crop up almost 2 years out.

Anyone else experiencing some vision issues?
It very well could be WLS related.

Just wonderin'

Be Well,
A.J.

My sincerest hopes it's not Macular Degeneration or something bad like that.  I have experienced that with family, and it sucks. Hopefully you can just up your vitamins and things will get better. Be like Bugs Bunny and eat those carrots!  LOL! Regards.

Hey A.J.P., I hope everything goes go with your vision. The only thing that has happend with my vision is it got better since the weight loss. Not to get off topic but I see if your photo you are a runner. I have started running my self. Do you have any tips for me? I run about 4 miles right now and can do that in 40 minutes. My best 1 mile is 9:15. Any tips on how to improve this?

AJ, Sorry to hear about the vision thing, I hope they get it sorted out quickly for you. I am about 18 months out now and my only vision issue has been my arms are to damn short to hold the paper far enough away to be able to focus on it correctly. Getting old and having to have reading glasses suck.... Take Care my brother and let us know what they figure out about your eyes..... Tim

AJ, Sorry to hear about your vision problems. None here. Still better than 20/20. (not bad for an 'old-azz.') No one ever had to say- "If you don't stop that, You'll Go Blind!" did they? My doc stressed B-1 supplimentation from day one. My calcium has a D in it... So that may have been what kept this from happening to me. OR, I could have great vision IN SPITE OF taking extra B-1 and D. Pass on what ever you find out! Best Wishes- Dx

you might find this interesting and you might find it a bit scary. It scared the hell out of me.  it does touch on vitamin deficiencies and vision issues http://www.neurology.org/cgi/content/abstract/68/21/1843 full article at the bottom in PDF form

Sorry to hear about your vision issues, AJ. I hope it is just a temporary vitamin deficiency and will be a quick fix. I've had to get bifocals and stronger glasses post-WLS but more due to age than the surgery I think. Did your labs indicate a shortage of vitamin A or B1 prior to the problem as mine didn't?  My best, Boner
