people get pregnant on birth control, people get lemons when they buy cars, not everyone is successful on weigh****chers ,jenny craig, some people are allergic to pennicillian and dont find out the easy way , but after they already have taken it... it does mean that what is good for some might not be for others. if u research it and look at the percent of people who have had these issues to the people who it is successful like i have over the past year and a half then you would know it is low and i have a choice and know risks because i have done the research.

Yeah that's pretty much what the lady who had to have her band removed in only 1 1/2 weeks told us a couple of months ago when we tried to warn her about the band also.

Glad you find our band complications amusing!

Actually I think you will find most bandsters with into this with the half full attitude. Then reality happened to us. Just like it will happen to YOU!

Take care...

If you are going to self pay, why  not self pay for a surgery that will give you restriction immediately and not require a lot of follow-up.  The sleeve is so much easier and less painful on a daily basis than the band.  You are asking for trouble to self pay for a band.

Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, research it.  There are thousands of people who had a band and revised to a sleeve because of complications.

The band is completely unpredictable at best.  Go for a surgery that is predicable, successful and a lot less trouble on a daily basis and for your long term health.

If you are paying cash, you need to KNOW UPFRONT the risks involved with the band. Please research how it works, also you need to make sure they do pre op screening to ensure you are a good candidate for the band. Also you need to ask your surgeon how many bands has he/she placed and their revision rates and how much the aftercare is going to costs, sometimes filling the band not exact science and it takes going back and forth to get it right.

Also here is a helpful guide on how the lap band works, good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery.

I am a self pay LapBand. I went in on Nov 15th and saw the psychologist, took a class, saw the Dr., had labs, the whole kit and kaboodle. I had the surgery on Nov 28th. My Dr. offers free fill for 1 yr.
I am at 7cc in a 10cc band. I have had no complications, although with every fill there is a learning curve.
As of this morning I have lost 39lbs!
I couldn't be happier with my WLS decision.

I was self pay. My process went fairly quickly. My surgery price covered everything including 2 years of aftercare. I haven't had to pay anything besides paying for my surgery yet because I haven't needed any fill or unfills since my 2 year mark. When I need another fill it will be $100. My doctor is a great doctor and him and his practice give great aftercare! Good luck!!!
