what is/was your goal weight?

I just had surgery on 9/23/11 and I would LOVE to weigh what I weighed when I got married 17 years ago!  I'm 5'5 and started at 237.  I'm at 231 right now and weighed 135 when I got married.  The surgeon said I could lose 90 lbs so that's pretty close.

I randomly picked one of the highest weights within the normal BMI category as my goal weight. It was all just sort of guesswork though because I was 300+ lbs and had no idea what 175-180 would look like.

I'm 5'11" and now that I am getting close to 180, I'm not sure that will be enough for me. My surgeon asked me what my goal weight was today and I just blurted out 170 and maybe that will be good enough when I get there, but who knows.

I'm starting to fit into size 12s and it's hard for me to imagine getting smaller than a 8 or 10, so anyway...after all this rambling, I think you just have to keep plugging away until you find the right spot for your body. It can be difficult to tell how much is skin as well.

I also hear people saying that your body kind of redistributes the fat after awhile. I haven't experienced this yet and I wish my body would get on it. I swear I'm carrying 10-15 lbs of fat in my thighs, but up top I can see my ribs (which is kind of freaky for someone who has always been obese), feel my spine poking out of the back of my neck, and my collar bone and shoulder blades are poking out. I knew I had bones and I knew I wanted to be thinner, but I didn't know seeing all my bones was going to freak me out so much, lol.

Best of luck,
Lindsey

When I started I felt that 180 would be good.  I remember weighing that when I started college and I was wearing a size 12.  I'm 5-10.  As I have gotten closer to that number, I am interested in trying to get to 150.  I have had 3 plastic surgeries.  I had my first when I was 100 lbs from my goal because of my chronic back pain.  My back pain disappeared after I had my TT - I had to have a revision in May since I lost much more weight.  I didn't mind!  Just having that weight removed in 2009 made working out possible!

I just have to say my piece on this... BMI IS CRAP!!!

I am under 20% body fat, 17.3% last time I had it measured, I got down to 175.5, but maintain around 185 - I wear a size 10 and am strong and healthy!

According to the BMI charts, at 185 I am obese, not overweight, OBESE.

I don't know many obese people with below average body fat percentages, that are super fit and can run 5+ miles a few times a week!

Just saying :-)

In my experience, and it's been quite the ride - the # on the scale is just a guideline, it was great to get under 200 lbs for the first time and I track my weight on a weekly basis just to make sure I'm in line...but since maintaining, I'm up and down 10 lbs here and there.  I would drive myself nuts (and do) with the #!!!

So if you have it in you, don't obsess about the final goal #, focus on how you feel, the activities you can do that you couldn't!  It's crazy to me (I'm guilty of it too) how it starts out as, I just want to be healthy, then turns into vanity!  Sigh, it's society, what can I say.

Love to you all!

Hi Kristen...it's been so long since you have been on the boards its nice to hear your doing well.

My doctor doesn't push BMI numbers either he is a very fit and tall man and according to the BMI he is over weight.

Anyhow the last time I wore 16 I was maybe a freshman in high school and the highest I have been is a size 30 needless to say I'm not going to wear a size 6 in my lifetime and I'm okay with that.

I'm short 5'2 but I'm very realistic even if I lost enough weight to get me to 130 pounds I don't think I could maintain it.. that's not life for me. Life is about enjoying all sort os things and activites...activities like camping and hiking and traveling and OMG eating!! I don't want to be so strict in life I can't enjoy ****tail hour or the occasional devine fruit and cheese plater or a bacon wrapped fig! Heaven Forbid because you wouldn't want to encounter me on the street I wouldn't be a very nice person lol

So my ultimate goal is 173 but if I land at 180 I would be pretty estatic!! So for me in the range of 173-180...Once I lose another chunk of weight I want to get a personal trainer to help lose some serious inches I can care less what I weigh as long as the size fits.
