Finally approved but Aetna has a tricky trick up their sleeve.

I'm scheduled for surgery on November 4. Apparantly, when the surgeons office tried to preapprove me they had to give the insurance what is know as a "dummy date." I finally got my approval letter today, and I sure am glad too. For it says,"Coverage for the following has been requested: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure to be rendered November 7, 2005 through November 7, 2005. Coverage for the requested service has been authorized. This sounds to me that I can have my surgery on November 7 and not November 4. If I try to have it on November 4, like its planned, I will be denied coverage. It seems I have some fighting on my hands. Lynda D.

Just wanted to update. I had my surgery on November 4th, 2005. I left the hospital on November 7th, 2005. Aetna called me a couple of days later and said, "Did you have your surgery on the seventh and then came home the same day?" Isn't that funny? I'm glad they called. I thought that was a sweet thing for them to do. The lady was very nice and very concerned about me. Aetna's not so bad. They paid at 100%. I didn't pay a dime. I had reached my out of pocket maximum for the year so they covered everything. The first week out of the hospital was sheer hell. I was sick, I was gassy, I was weak. Turns out I can't have milk anymore. The weakness gradually went away over time. When they say you need six weeks to recover, they are not kidding. If ever I can help with getting coverage through Aetna, email me. I'll be glad to give advice. Lynda D.

Hey Linda my name is Vernice and I just switched to Aetna on January 1st and I would like any info you might be able to give on what they requested or required to approve the surgery. Thanks in advance! Vernice [email protected]
