Waiting for internal appeal

I am scared I turned in my internal appeal to my job on 08/04, I emailed the lady in the hr dept to find out when my internal appeal would be done, she said that last weeks she would be mailing it out , then this week she was hopefully have it sent out, well yesterday out of the blue they decided to tell over 100 people that they no longer had a job. One of the reasons given is health care too high, I am scare to death that I am going to lose my job, I have always been quite at work and did my job. Now that I am fight to get the surgery I thing I am being a thorn in their side. I don't know what to do. We only have about 220 people at work. I can't believe that they let half of the people go.
