Looking for a new Primary Care Doctor

I went to see my pcp this afternoon for two reasons: I am having problems with my left knee and also I wanted to talk with him about a referral to a bariatric surgeon. I have done my research and narrowed down my options to 2 or 3 surgeons that are listed for Tricare Prime. He refused to refer me stating there was no doubt that I needed to lose weight but he had referred a couple of people in the past and yes, they had lost weight but are now gaining it back. He went on to say that he could refer me to an orthopedist for my knee but that they would just tell me to lose weight. I left his office in tears.....angry tears. He sees me as a non-person because I am fat. Last year when my husband went in complaining of knee pain, he sent to the best knee man at Hughston Clinic.

Thanks Kimberly for your suggestion. However, I don't think that Dr. Zumstein is listed as a provider on my insurance. The way Tricare Prime works the referral has to come from my primary care doc and he has to have been chosen from the LIST. I have found several listed that are accepting new patients. I guess I can call each one and ask what their feelings are concerning wls so that I can make an informed choice.
