need information on bowl blockage?? mineral oil?
Hi, I am struggling again with major bowel problems. I am almost 8 weeks out. This is the worse that it has been. Has anyone had to go to the hospital with this? What was done to help? How do you know that you have a bowel blockage that needs treatment?
I have not been able to eat today except a protein shake this morning for breakfast. I took an approved laxative yesterday and again today and still have had little success going to the restroom. I feel weak and nauseated today and have no appetite and definitely feel like I need to go to the restroom but can't. I know that my water consumption needs to be more, but I am miserable now. Does anyone have any advice? Can weight loss surgery patients take mineral oil daily? or use fleet enemas? Please help. Thank you. LMW

Dear LMW,
As one who nearly died post op from a small bowel obstruction my suggestion would be to contact your wls immediately and let him be aware of how long this has been going on.
You generally have a bloated kinda feeling and if you still can't go after about four or so days, Hello..... I'd be so fast in that E.R. couldn't noone stop me. You may experience some nausea but, because you are post op you may not be able to keep anything down and then again your pouch is so small all you do is dry-heave it up.
PLEASE call your doctor and do exactly what he tells you to do and IF I can be of any to help privately e-mail me at [email protected].
Best of recovery for you,
Crece
No, I don't consider it stupid at all. I will take your advice. I am finally feeling better though. Thank the Lord. I never knew this could make someone feel so rough. I almost went to the emergency room, but finally got some relief late tonight. What a day! I am so glad that I was at home with this and not at work. God bless you for taking the time to respond. Sincerely, LMW
I think you should call your surgeon ASAP. Your feeling weak, nauseated and no appetite concerns me. Are you running a fever? Drinking enough water is very important. I think dehydration can cause these symptoms, too. It may not be anything serious, but you should call your surgeon just in case. If it is some kind of a blockage, getting to your surgeon asap is crucial. In fact, I would be hesitant to try any other types of laxatives if the approved laxative didn't help until consulting with the surgeon.
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. Please keep us posted.

Thanks all, I had a very rough day, but I am feeling better now. I will definitely be drinking all my water now. The fleet enema was very helpful. I guess this is going to be a constant battle for me from now on. I will be going to the doctor if this happens again or does not stay improved. I think my main problem is not enough fluids. I just never realized how miserable this can make you feel. I almost went to the emergency room--and then a breakthrough! Praise God. Thanks so much for everyones response. I truly appreciate it. I am so thankful that I had this difficulty on the weekend and not while I was at work!!
