Where's everyone at?
Hey lady, how are you doing? Did you get my message on the board the last time you posted. I went to my nutrition consult at AMC Monday and it was sooooooooooo educational, now just waiting the psych eval on the 12th. Hope to see ya at the next meeting. Oh and if possible you might wanna update your posting pic so everyone can see how great you are looking.

Dee Dee,
Since you seem to be the resident guru for working out...I have a question for you. Did you find that the scale wasn't moving as quickly for you as it seemed to for others? I've been training 3 days/week since my surgeon released me in early December. Although I'm thrilled to have lost 114.5 pounds so far, I can't help but notice others who've lost more in a shorter period of time.
My lean body mass to fat body mass ration is improving with each measurement, so I know I'm heading in the right direction. I am definitely stronger than I've ever been before, and I can actually see the muscle definition while I'm working out.
I do one hour of high-intensity strength training followed by 30 minutes on the treadmill at 3.4 mph. I also walk around my block (1 mile) several times a week (usually 3 laps). And, of course, me and my push-mower are best buddies this time of year.
Do I need to do more? Or, should I just try to be patient?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Catherine

Wow - never thought "I'd" ever be a guru at anything much less working out! You have done FANTASTICALLY with your weight loss. You're doing everything the way you're supposed to. I wouldn't worry about comparing your weight loss to what others are doing. There are several factors that you need to realize when thinking whether or not you're moving as fast with the weight loss as others are.
1) The bigger you are the more you have to loose. You've already lost over 100 lbs - that in and of itself is FABULOUS!!!! Weight loss slowing down is a NORMAL part of this procedure.....no worries!!!!
2) The density in muscle weighs more than fat does. If you're doing strength training you're going to build dense muscle which will help to increase your metabolism - but it will also make the scales not move the same way because you're replacing fat with muscle.....I'd personally rather be more muscle than fat!!!
3) Cardio is a great thing to do - but I would find ways to vary up what type of cardio you're doing. While I'm a firm beliver that walking is one of the BEST forms of exercise, doing the same cardio exercise will make your muscles get "used" to what they are doing and won't burn the fat as efficiently. You may want to change things up by doing some cycling or throw in a step class here and there - maybe jump on the elliptical!!! If you have joint problems make sure you ask the instructors or trainers and they will give you options that can keep things VERY low impact.
If your scale isn't moving regularly - make sure you take measurements....weight loss isn't just about the scale - you can drop inches too!!!
