I'm a bit concerned
Hello to all. I just wanted to share my concern with you and see what your experiences have been. I alredy have a date scheduled less than 2 weeks from now with Dr. Procter. And I've only seen the doctor once, and not even Dr. Proctor but hiss associate, DR. Richard for my initial consult with whom I thought my surgery was going to be. But instead, when it came down to scheduling I was scheduled for pre-op and surgery with dr. Procter. I only saw nutriotionist once in a group meeting and I'm going to see her again on my pre-op date next week. Does these all seems "normal" to you all? From what I see reading people's messages it seems like everyone is seeing their Dr. at least a few times before the actual surgery... Am I just getting paranoid/anxious?
Rita, I don't think that's too unusual. I've only seen my surgeon twice, and the second time was because I was starting all over on my clearance process. From what I have read on this board, Dr. Proctor is an excellent surgeon, and is very good on follow up. When you stop to think about it, seeing your surgeon afterwards is a lot more important than before. If you were facing gall bladder or any other surgery, you probably wouldn't see the surgeon but once before your operation. He has all the clearances, which are much more important than asking you a lot of questions. Grit your teeth and hang in there, gal! We're all pulling for you.

Hi Rita,
I only saw my surgeon twice before surgery. The first time was on my initial consultation with him, then 9 months later during my pre-op visit with him. So it doesn't seem too unusual. My surgeron, Dr. Daly, doesn't have a partner who also does the WLS, so I knew I would have him do my surgery.

I saw my doctor twice before surgery. Once was the initial 'group' informational thingy where you get your packet and they explain the surgery to the room, and then once 1 week before my surgery where I had a quick exam and the legalaties where explained and I signed all the paperwork. I think your doctor is normal there.

Thank you all for putting me at ease about my situation..... so I guess it is a common practice...I do want to believe that everything is going to be fine with the sugery and even more importantly that it was a Right decision for me to have this surgery... and as I think of it without emotions I know it is....but OMG!!! I can't really turn all of my feelings and fears off now ...I can't think straight for that matter at all.... it's truly overwelming for me....And in general I'm not like that.... neither very impressionable, nor very emotional.... and again, Thnk YOU for your support.
Do not worry
I saw Dr. Procter twice before surgery, but have seen him several times after during support groups, etc. He is a wonderful doctor..(and I have heard Dr. Richard is as well)
Good luck to you! If you need anything, please feel free to email me. I had surgery with Dr. Procter last November.

Dr Proctor is also going to be my surgion, and like you I saw Dr Richard for my consultation. I have seen Dr P at the informational meeting and I was very impressed, I have not personally met Dr P since all this started a year ago, I also saw him at Lanier Park hospitol when my daughter had a test done, I passed him in the hall and he made faces at my 2 year old son and made him laugh, he did not know who I was or that eventually he would be my surgion. So from what I have seen I really like him, With Dr Richard in Iraq for a year he is having to do alot more surgeries, so not it isnt unusual, just a good sign that he stays busy.
Erin and Tammy, thank you for the support....I'm not doubting either Dr. Richard or dr. Procter... I know for sure that they are "cream de la cream" doctors...and I do have a very good eye for that....I'm completely at ease with their expertise, training , and personalities. It's the fact that everything seems to be unfolding so fast, and there is so many fears , and nowhere to escape afterwards that makes me nervous, I guess.... Anyway, I appriciate your kindness and support...
