I had surgery almost two years ago, I have lost over 280 lbs., and I am doing great.  My problem is when my husband decided to have the surgery, it was to late.  His company had changed insurance carriers, and now baraitric surgery is not covered at all.  Does anyone know of a way to make the insurance carriers cover surgery, or what are our options.  Have been married for 28 years, and find my husband getting more depressed everyday, I need to help him, no help us, so we can get some help and soon.  Thanks for any advise. has anyone every tried, forcing an insurance company to pay for surgery?

Ask your husband's insurance carrier to give you information on appeals process..A lot of the Bariatric surgeons offices around , can also help you in finding out how to go about the appeal. But usually after you start a workup with them. You might also try, your doctor's office staff..Then also if your credit is good , then a lot of offices have financing.Or also is there a chance that your Husbands job might have open enrollment and then he could change the insurance. Hope this helps... Peace Trishalla

I am going through the same thing, my insurance covered it and I started the process and then they stopped covering the surgery.  I looked at my policy and it says "if not medically nessecary" which means they should cover it if my doctors feel it is medically nessecary which mine feel it is.  Look at the exclusion and have your doctors office pursue it.  Hope this helps.
