Atlanta WLS Support Group?
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fun WLS support group in the Atlanta area? I had Gastric Bypass surgery 8 months ago and have lost 94 lbs, but I have yet to go to a support group meeting. I was recomended to a group by my surgeon, which was more of a nutrionist/medical/teaching group.
I'm really looking for something that is both educational, but has a loose enough format to get to personally meet and connect with other post WLS people. Now that I am no longer so burdeoned by my weight, I am very eager to get out in the community and meet other people who I have things in common with, and can offer positive influences/ideas for my new healthy life.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
I attend three different support groups. The first one is at Atlanta Medical Center and it is sort of like you discribed. But you would have to try it (or yours) to see if it is something you would like. The second one is in Rockdale county. It is a bit more informal. We usually have a topic of discussion then a sharing free for all. The third on is in Henry county. I think iof this one as the most social. Yes we do have topics of discussion but there is a lot of interaction amongst all of us and we meet monthly for dinners and such. In fact, we have a dinner planned for the 23rd of this month at the Olive Garden in Morrow @ Southlake Mall. Famlies are welcome and will will meet at 6:30 pm. We would love to have you. I have found meeting people and socializing with them to be very helpful. Just ask and I or someone else will give you the times and places for all of the above meetings. Hope to meet you soon.

Hi Pat,
Thank you so much for the information. I ran the mapquest, and Rockdale is a bit of a ways for me, but I think I could do Henry county. If you could please email me with some meeting times for the Henry county meeting and any additional info about the Olive Garden event that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kristina
There is also a support group in Cobb county , just off Windy Hill Rd..I am going on the third thursday of July...So i do not know what it is like, but will relate when I go..I see you were a BMI of 40.2 and that is about what I am..My surgery date is August 13th...Did you lose a lot at first?Or was it slower?A lot of people that have lower BMI 's say it is slower, so I would be interested in your experience..
Peace
