Here's my problem. I called to make my appointment with Dr. Nye and they tell me that I will need atleast 5 years of medical proof of being obese so that the insurance will approve me. I have only been going to my present doctor for about 3 years. Before that I only went to the doctor when it was absolutely necessary and that was not very often. So, I have tried to think of every time I did go to the doctor and have tried to obtain medical records and so far no luck. The only responses that I have gotten so far is that it was so long ago that they can't find my records. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Do you know is this is normal for the insurance company or could this just be this particular doctor? Thanks, Wanda

My insurance company wants this also, but I have no idea if BC Federal has that as a requirement or not. I doubt that the doctor's office really cares about your 5 year history so much as they want you to get approved when they send in your file. Have you called BC and asked if this is a requirement? Good luck!! Jan

hey there, i was thinking that if you have any hospital or older doctor records with your weight on it, will they except them or if you can get letters from other people. other than that i don't know but i hope you can get what you need. angie

Why don't you call the insurance company direct. Ask them what theyneed for approval. I had Aetna and was told the same thing going in. Once I spoke with my insurance company I got some different answers.

Wanda, I would gladly give you a few years of my obesity since I have struggled with this for almost 15 years. In fact the doctor I have gone to for many years doesnt have a scale that goes as high as I have been for the past 10 years so they went by my word on my weight. How depressing was that, admitting to the skinny nurses that I weighed more than 350, eeek! Now I can use that scale next time I go I hope you can find something that documented your weight that far back. Good luck

Wanda, By any chance would you stll have an old driver's license that shows your weight? I don't think they put weight on the newer ones but I remember it being on the older ones. Also, what about a passport? I think they ask for height & weight on the application. Also, insurance applications ask for height & weight. Just a few suggestions. Vickie J. aka: Tallahassee Lassie

Your old insurance companies should have your medical records stored somewhere. Files just don't disappear. I had to go through Cigna's file room personnel to get them to find my files. Even if you didn't go to the Dr that often, your files should still show your weight. Good Luck!

Hi Wanda, I had the same problem and then I remembered that I get a pap smear every year from my GYN doctor. They weigh you every visit and it is on the office visit notes. I just called and asked for a copy of my records. I used them to get approved by Aetna and I got my date last week. I am scheduled for Sept 16, 2004. Lap Band, Dr Tiffany Jessee, Largo, Florida. Good Luck, Jeanette D.
