Hi guys, I received a free copy of this months WLS mag. There is some info on BC/BS not covering after 1/1. Statements from BC/BS forlks and doctors. Some doctors say they will have to stop WLS, as they will loose their skill should they not do surgery weekly. More later. Marla

That's not good news. They call this an epidimic yet here they go stopping the one thing that can help save thousands? Okay, makes perfect sense. Cut the sources ... and put down the people. Lord help me find something before its too late!

Hey Marla..... Did you see anything on State EMployees PPO. The Dr. Office I use said that the exclusion was not included for State Employee's? I liek that idea ...however I have not seen that in writing of course, that is why I am full speed ahead. But in any case I was just wonderin if you saw any of that being mentioned? Becky

Becky, I do not remember it stating state employees. Vice president of BC/BS of FL, Dr. Barry Schwartz, states they have serious concerns about the quality of care at many facilities. He also stated there are more and more community hospitals getting into bariatic surgery as the reason for concerns. Also the fact children and adolescents are getting the surgery is a concern. A Councilwoman, Suzanne Jenkins, in FL's District Four, states she has a personal stake in BC/BS of FL's decision since her 19 year old daughter recently underwent WLS. She goes on to say it is fundamrntally wrong when people meet the criteria for wls to cutoff access for a cure. So from her stating the above, I would say it is state employes. I did not see "state employees" used. Marla

Marla, Did the article refer to BC/BS of FL specificallly, or to all BC/BS? I have BC/BS of NJ and I'm praying I'll get approval & be able to have surgery before the end of 2004. I'm concerned that if BC/BS of FL drops coverage and gets away with it (employees don't complain enough that their employers will complain to BC/BS) that other states will drop coverage as well. Keep all of us BC/BS covered folks in your prayers. This could be a serious setback for many. Vickie J. aka: Tallahassee Lassie

Do you know if this includes BC/BS Federal? I have been researching this for some time and cannot seem to get a straight answer about it. Thanks, Wanda
