I just do not understand it, guys.
I see it posted by people all the time that "exercise does not help with weight loss". I understand that with being so caloric restrictive with our surgeries, exercise has way less impact.
I just refuse to buy into the fact that "exercise does not help"...
Muscle = burns fat, its your metabolic system. More muscle = more fatloss = better/higher success in maintenance
Muscle = how your body moves and supports itself
Muscle = not being a skinny frail old fart stuck to a chair/walker/Rascal scooter
Muscle = no ass pain when our fat asses (literally, lol) go away and we are left uncomfortable, by building our glutes
Muscle = less body pain due to weakness in joints/etc when our supporting fat is gone (I have to keep my shoulder strong or it hurts from where I had surgery 4 years ago)
I'm not even talking huge amounts of muscle.. I'm talking ANY THING THAT CAN BE HAD FROM EXERCISE...
Am I the only one? I know I "stir the pot", but that, in my opinion, is some of the absolute WORST information/feedback I have ever seen on here.

June 1st, 2015 I started running 30 seconds at a time. Couch to 5k. It was not easy but it was fun. When I started that, I could not imagine running 5k without walking. Once I got there, I thought yeah but running 10k or 21k is way too much. When I got there I thought, running a marathon seems doable. Now I'm trying to run 50k and beyond and there is no doubt about doing the distance. And it all started jogging 30 seconds at a time. As long as you enjoy it, keep at it, and listen to your body, there is nothing you can't do.

When I first started running I could not not think of running 5k and I built up to it. I will never forget the first time I did a 21k race and there were people running 42k that day. A friend came out to run the last 5k with me and I said to her I don't know how anyone could run 42k. I thought I am nearly dead running 21 no way could I run another 21k. She said to me what did you train for and I said 21 and she said you are doing it. When you are ready you will train for 42 and you will do it. I have never forgotten that. It is what you train your body to do. No one starts out being able to run 20 miles. You may never want to run that distance and that is OK. work on 5k and be proud that you are doing it
Is your post about becoming less dependent on technology such as cell phones, or about cell phones interfering with your enjoyment of nature? Those are 2 separate kind of posts. No one has put down anyone who didn't use a cell phone. They did however emphasize the use of cell phones in remote areas for safety.
I totally understand some people are very connected to their phone, but your original post wasn't about that, your subsequent post is.
If you want to post about relying too much on technology & having it distract you from nature, then just come out & post about that.
Remember pay phones?, now a days you have to search for one, & the spare change to use it. same for fire boxes that you'd pull for whenever there was a fire in that area. A lot of homes ditched their landline phone in lieu of using cell phones. So if you want to ditch the phone to enjoy nature that's fine. Just remember nature is beautiful but don't get so swept up by the beauty of it & forget the dangers it can bring as well.
Stay in touch with someone when you want to ditch the technology.

In response to all...Yes, I use my cell phone for safety...But I live is a pretty safe town (yeah, there is crime everywhere...But not as bad as many areas). Maybe I'm to old...Maybe not. Maybe you might be too connected to your phones?? I did most of my backpacking as a teenager (early 1970's). Up in the high sierras there were no cell phones. You were 2-3 days hike to a landline phone. You told people where you were hiking and when you planned to be back (or make contact...Also no answering machines back then)...So you would call back up #s and relay messages.
Now about becoming data less. In our modern society we rely on our phones to the point that they have become a phobia or mania to us if we don't have them...It's true. Hurricane Sandy hit New York and New Jersey a few years back. No joke...Truth...Teenage girls were having nervous breakdowns because they couldn't access their cell phones. NERVOUS BREAKDOWNS!! There are now camps (adult and many other camps) that require you leave your phone with staff before entering the camp.
Not putting anyone down for carrying a cell phone...95% of mobile society does it all the time. But please don't put down the other 5% that choose not to go that route. You talk about freedom and beauty...Try enjoying them when you get an annoying text or call. 99% of the time they can wait. The other 1% I can deal with. Below are a few links to show I'm not totally insane...Brian

Oh my goodness! I am posting here to keep myself accountable but I cannot imagine a point where I could run 20 miles on a trail! I barely was able to jog in intervals Saturday at our 5K. Ugh.
