Gained weight

Ok SO I know that muscle weighs more than fat...BUT...I have joined a new gym.  I am going like 4 times a week for the past two weeks.  I did lose about three pounds...BUT now I am back up 2.5 lbs of it.

I am lifting weights and doing a small bit of cardio.  Since I had my RNY I had only ever used the treadmill.

My question is this.  Why did I lose weight only to gain it back.  Is this a lifting thing?  (I am not eating any more than normal)

Be nice to me...I am new to excersicing and physiology and feel a bit overwhelmed here.

It could be a couple things.
2.5 pounds is such a small amount.  I vary that much during the day.  I'm usually 3 pounds lighter in the morning than I am in the afternoon or evening.
It could be water weight.  It could be some muscle, but not sure you gained 2.5 pounds of muscle in 2 weeks.  Likely what you saw was a 3 pound water loss initially.

My weight loss stalled almost as soon as I started increasing my exercise.
You say you haven't been eating any more, but you may find that you will start to want to.  You will be burning more calories and your body will need to replenish those.

Building lean muscle mass will help you with calorie burn.  Muscle is going to burn calories just sitting there.  Fat will just hang out.

Give yourself some real time to see real results.

Thanks.  I know that I need to be patient.  It just feels like the scale ought to be moving down or even staying the same.

I only weigh first thing in the AM.  My weigh ins are always at the same time and wearing the same thing..LOL

I know that the muscle should be helping to move that scale but I am a bit diappointed to say teh least.  My clothes at this point are all too big. so I cant even tell if they fit better...LOL

Thanks so much for your answer

agreed with seht, if you haven't changed your eating then it is most likey hydration.  on some of my heavy workout days (over 2 or 3 hours of running/biking etc) i can vary huge #'s of lbs from morning to night.  the most i've seen is a 12 lb difference in one day (that has happened a couple of times).
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

i can sweat.... A LOT, during some really big workouts.   Hydration is a ***** for me to keep up with, i drink all day including electrolytes and salt the crap outta my food (BP is still super low).

holy snikes batman...12 lbs of liquid sweated out of you...It seems to be that you must carry a linen closet full of towels with you to the gym.

I too know that the fluid is an issue.  But my weigh ins are like I said, same time same clothes.

I will have to keep it up and see how it goes.

Thanks
