Weight gain with weight lifting
On week four of new weight trng/cardio trng. My program look is:
Sun = 60 min of cardio(eliptical, walk/run on treadmill, or combination of both).
Mon= arms, shoulder, chest and upper back then 60 mins of cardio(eliptical, walk/run on treadmill, or combination of both).
Tues= lunges, squats(smith press 15-40 lbs) , weighted side binds, abs, and lower back, and 60 min of cardio(eliptical, walk/run on treadmill, or combination of both).
Wed = 60 min cardio(eliptical, walk/run on treadmill, or combination of both).
Thurs = Monday's routine
Friday = Tues's routine
Sat= OFF
I have already begun to see definition in my arms(expecially shoulders) and back. I look as though I have melted however I have gained 3lbs, and am hungry constantly.
Now I know I need to increase my calories...and I have. What I want to know is how much weight should I expect to gain and about how long before I start to lose again?
I am still early out and dont want to lose the (golden months) of my surgery. I really like working out and feel much better than when I was just losing. I had begun to feel as though I was "wasting" and now I feel strong and fit. I have a way to go ......and any advice/guidance would be appreciated.

Everyone is probably different, but I can tell you I personally gained about 5 pounds when I started increasing my calories and my carbs - and at the same time really upped my cardio/running. You have great program if you can keep it up - I am really having trouble getting strength training done with any sort of intensity with all the cardio.
Wow, I look like a piker compared to you. My surgeon wanted me to focus more on weights than cardio in order to build more muscle, which translates to burning more calories while in resting state. I do 20 minutes on the treadmill or bicycle and then 20-25 minutes on the weight machines every other day. On my off days I swim laps. I made it 20 minutes today without stopping, I was pretty excited about that! Takes a while to build endurance back up for swimming, I'm finding.
Anyway, as hard as you're working it's only a matter of time before the weight starts dropping off again. You are going to look fantastic!

Thank you Jenny. I really enjoy working out...always have. I can only explaing my obesity on genetic, the culture of food I was raised in, and letting life get in the way of putting me first. I am doing that now and it feels good.
I am not in a hurry to loose, I really do want this to be a lifestyle change process. I just don't want to lose the element of support that my tool is providing me. I am also afraid of hanging skin....and I personally dont want to have another surgery (PS), so I work hard to minmize the damage.

I gained 10 lbs at first but have now lost 12. I really think a lot had to do with not only lifting weights, but getting really hydrated. I'm ashamed to say that I had been really living in a perpetual state of dehydration. Suddenly I increase my water significantly and I gained some weight. But at the same time I was gaining I was losing inches and body fat percentage and that is what is the most important. You will be hungry because you're training your body like an athelete now and you need more fuel. Being so early out, as I am, you may not be able to eat as much as you need to in order to fuel your body. That's where you need to rely on protein shakes. I think skim milk is the best option because it gives you the extra dairy, calories, and protein, and it makes the taste a lot more tolerable. Others may disagree! Keep up the good work. You will love the results!
