Rave Run
I want to share with everyone a run I got to do while I was in Arkansas on Sunday visiting relatives. My sisters and brothers all live in northwest Arkansas and we try to get there a couple of times of year. It is more difficult now that mom and dad are gone but we still enjoy seeing everyone when we can.
They got a white Christmas this year and it was certainly beautiful. The temperature never got over 30 degrees so the snow was still around while we were there. I was scheduled for my long run on Sunday and was determined not to miss just because we were away from home. I got out about 8:00A Sunday and had an idea to run to one of my uncle's home place. The streets still had some snow and ice on them but nothing to that caused me any major troubles. The route took me by the house we first lived in. Doesn't look near as big as it did when I was in elementary school. And then out in to the country. Oddly enough the country roads were more clear than the city streets. This part of Arkansas is mainly wooded and hilly with intermittent pastures. The road I was on mainly followed a creek. I got to my uncle's old place and flashed back to all the time I had spent there throughout my youth and reflected on how much had changed with me as far as my health and abilities go.
I ran past his place for a few miles and turned to head back to the house. In the pasture beside the old place was a herd of about 10 or so white tail deer. The were just standing in the a snow covered pasture. It was one of the most spectacular sights I have ever seen. I wish I would have a had a camera so I could share it with everybody. I know I will never forget it!
I know this is long and probably boring for some, but it was inspirational to me that I could get out on a cold morning run 12 or so miles and just enjoy the sights and sounds of all I saw.
I hope each of you have an awesome New Year!
