Hi all

Im Laural from Ontario.I had DS July 2007 and have lost 210 pounds...
I am looking to redirect my love/comfort of eating into something I can do for myself that will challenge me and improve my health.
Im an all or nothing type gal and know the challenge of this sport would give me a sence of accomplishment.I truly lack self esteem dispite my success with the weight loss.
I would like to connect with someone who can direct me in how to begin...ya its winter here and Im a little crazy to chose this time of year to start...however....Im ready for a challenge!

Thanks
Laural

Here is a link to a couch to 5K program.

The concept is that you start walking/jogging with short jogging stints.  Gradually, you increase the amount you run so that after a few weeks, you are jogging most of your workout.

Here is the challange.  Find a spring race in your local area and sign up for it.  If you want motivation, that's it!

Good luck
Scott

I agree with Scott. The couch 2 5k program is great for getting you started. I am using it (I'm almost at the end of the program) and it's great. I also think I'm crazy for starting a running program this late in the year, especially when I'm out running with gloves, hat, two layers of clothes and still feel cold. LOL. Once I start running though I warm up nicely and the cold doesn't bother me. I do draw the line at trying to run in snow or ice because of traction issues. Good Luck and Congrats on the weight loss!

Yeah another DS'r!

I started running a year ago November and I started with the C25K program.  It's the way to go for sure!!   There are free podcasts to listen to on your Ipod or MP3 player to help you keep track of your timing of the intervals. I highly reccomend them so your no****ching your watch!

B**** just one year of running I did my first full marathon!  You can do this!!

I am starting the couch to 5K on Monday. The ice/snow mess should be gone by then. :)
I'm planning on doing a 5k in April. It's a run/walk/wheel event here in town, so even if I can't run the whole thing it's ok. :)

Good luck with your training. :)

Excellent!
How are you planning to do your run /walk timing?
Interested in being Internet running buddies.....knowing someone else is out there would be comforting...lol

That would be great. I'd love to be your internet running buddy. :)

I downloaded some free podcasts from Itunes for my ipod. I think it's the Robert Ulrey(sp?) version. I don't particularly care for the music, but I like the voice cues so I can deal. LOL
