I'm Baaaack ... Back to Daring Greatly

Well I havent been on here in a few weeks and I probably should have. I could have definately used some encouragement and a swift kick in the backside. I had basiclly given up on fitness and running. I gained 15 pounds and ran only twice in an almost 3 week period. I let my marriage problems get the best of me and I started feeling sorry for myself. A dear dear friend from Houston helped me out. When she found out that I was cancelling a 1/2 marathon this past Saturday and probably my 1st full marathon in Houston next month, she chewed me out. She told me I had worked too hard to give up. It is just that my wife has said that one of the reasons she left me was my races. i listened to my friend and although I knew I was no longer physiclly ready for the race as my base had dropped dramaticlly in the past 3 weeks, I HAD to run this race. It was on the sea wall and bayfront in Corpus Christi. It was an out and back. I knew I had to stay slow. My 1st 10 miles fer at a 10:40 pace or better. My last 3 miles were much slower, but I never walked. I actually finished this race 1 minute slower than the 1/2 that I ran in San Antonio last month where I actually had to stop and stretch and walk almost 2 miles. go figure.

I had 1 goal for this race considering the cir****tances, that was to finish even if I had to crawl across the line. I did much better than that. Although it is difficult for me lately to work out since i always work out alone which causes me to think about my situation more than I would like to, but I will do Houston. It will be a challenge since I have lost my base and the race is less than a month away. There is also a 6 hour time limit on the marathon, but I will make it.

Thank you all for being here giving me such inspiration. Keep Daring Greatly!!!

Sorry to hear about your problems at home.  I really hope that it does not make you alter your goal of being healthy.  For me, races and goals are a huge part of that goal.  Glad to hear that you are pulling up your boot straps and heading back in the game.  Houston does not have a chance of beating you!

Hey Darrell,

Good to see you back and congrats on a great race. Just an FYI... It would take 4 weeks of doing absolutely NOTHING to lose 15% of your base... You have not lost any of it I would guess. Keep after it bro. I heard from a wise man once that Difficulty is inevitable, Misery is optional. You can rise above all your struggles and come out conquerer if you stay focused on the things that matter most. See ya soon bro...

Congrats on completing the race.  You should be proud of yourself for working through the difficulties you are having.  I wish you the best and I hope that the new year brings you some deserved comfort and happiness.

Good luck on the full marathon, you will do great.

Glad to hear you getting back to things.  At the end of last semester and this one both, I did very little as school took precedence.  I'm just getting back into it myself this week.  It's not necessarily as pleasant as it was, but it feels great to do.
