A YAY!! and a NO WAY!! Today...
I took some wonderful peoples advice and went down and had my "fit" for running shoes today. It was very interesting watching how my foot pressure pictures turned out (and not to bad considering I have a tendency to walk on the outside of my feet). My run (they taped my feet so they could see how I impact etc. Very cool! So YAY, I have new running shoes and that will hopefully keep me from doing to much damage to my knee.
Now for the NO WAY! I think I'm coming down with something. I am so not feeling well, cold, achy, etc. There goes my workouts for a couple of days (hopefully that's all this thing will last!!) I am totally bummed!

I hope the new shoes work out well for you. Now for the bad news, you go through shoes faster than you might think.
I used to wear them till they were destroyed or the were so worn on the outside (i'm an outside of the foot walker too) that they almost leaned over on their own.
It is recommended that you replace running shoes between 350-550 miles depending on your running style, body weight, and the surface on which you run. Lighter runners can get closer to the upper end of the recommendation while heavier runners are harder on shoes and should consider replacement shoes closer to 350 miles.
You can also look for wear and tear, look at your shoes now and see how the outside edges of your shoes look. The side of the rubber. No marks nice and clean, smoothe skinned. As you wear them you will start to see wrinkles in that rubber as it breaks down. That also means that the cushioning inside is breaking down as well. You can also put them on a flat surface and look for uneven wear and tear.
I hope that is is just a 1 day bug or that something was just a little icky today. Hope you are back on your feet and going again soon.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
To add to what Scott said, I find that after about 5-6 months, it doesn't matter how many miles my shoes have, they need to be replaced anyway.
