Injury! So sad and frustrated! - No question, just ranting
I am having some problems with my iliotibial band, basically outer thigh pain and knee pain and swelling. I am going to phyiscal therapy for it now and I decided yesterday that I need to be honest with myself and take a solid week off to give my leg time to recover. This has been the hardest thing in the world for me to do right now.
I am so aggravated with my body. I know that in my head I have made huge progress in six months. I am making huge progress cardiovascularly, training for a 10k (which I have to stop), and have a ton more energy, but at the same time I feel like I am progressing so much slower than I want to be.
The will and the determination are there, but I have abused and neglected my body for so long that it just won't do it.
POUT!

Hang in there. Injuries are frustrating when you're making such great progress, but giving your body a chance to heal is critical to preventing chronic problems. For me, I worked with my PT to find alternatives to running so I didn't go stir crazy during the downtime.
My IT band issues caused pain at the hip, so I was able to spin, swim and use the elliptical once the inflammation calmed down. The cross-training kept up my cardiovascular fitness, so I didn't have to start from scratch when I returned to running.
Rest. Heal. Then Kick Butt!

I am going crazy!! I grabbed my running shoes this afternoon and figured I could walk on my treadmill, but then my hubby asked if I really should be doing that and I reconsidered. Of course, my mind set was that since I can't run, I am going to go walk twice as long as I usually do to make up for it. I am apparently in denial and not having the best attitude. Anyway, I ended up grabbing some pillows, an ice pack and found me a comfy spot on the sofa to prop up my leg.
Thanks for letting me know which exercises you did. I really have to talk to my physical therapist to see what I can do before I pulled my hair out.

My older brother, who is an Ironman athlete like Sherry, recommended ART to me, but I wasn't able to find anyone close who was trained in the techniques. He favored ART over traditional PT.

I am also wondering if I need to "break up" with my phyiscal therapist? If I need to get approval from my doctor to see a chiropacter? I guess I will make some calls on Tuesday. The videos on youtube explained a lot.
