Topic: RE: RNY & Cymbalta
I have fibro and arthritis....and my surgeon lets me use an NSAID in suppository form once a day ..VOLTAREN 50gm ( generic supps also sold as DICLOFENAC , much cheaper)...Because NSAIDs are systemic ( blood-borne) he insists I protect my rny pouchie with an oral Pantoloc tablet ( protein pump inhibitor), which is expensive, but a generic also exists..
By using a suppository, you minimize chances of an ulcer in your new stomach which develops with prolonged oral use, and even 3 weeks might be too much for oral tablets for some people....
The spontaneous bleeding which can occur with any NSAIDs ( whether by oral tablet, injection or suppository) scares me, so I use them for a max of 3 weeks at a time, just to get a flare-up under control....If you can get over the squeamishness of a suppository, believe me it works and provides relief within 20-30 minutes (added bonus: I'm never constipated anymore as I have to fight the urge to defecate the first half hour as the suppository "unplugs" me..TMI!)
I am allowed one a day, so depending on whether I need a good night's sleep, or a very active day....I take either at night or in the morning...
Ask your surgeon whether he would accept you going on VOLTAREN or DICLOFENAC suppositories once a day (to minimize direct contact with your new stomach)...and maybe you will be allowed as long as you take something like Pantoloc to protect your stomach from the systemic blood-borne NSAID....For me it has provided relief when I need it most, but not all surgeons let their patients use the NSAID suppositories. Also, it is only for a relative short time, so not for daily use months on end...Hope this helps you!

Sorry I have never heard of this. Please let us know how you are doing. I hope all went well.
Topic: Has anyone had a radiofrequency ablation?
I am having a radio frequency ablation on my lumbar spine today.
By the time y'all read this I will probably have already have the procedure.
It's in office and apparently involves inserting two needles into my SI and apply an electrical charge that burns off the nerve that sends pain signals to my brain.
I have mentioned before, I suffer from more than FM.
Since losing weight, my spine has pinched my nerves. So instead of spinal surgery, I'm hoing this works.
Long story short: Have you had it? heard of it? Results?
Thanks gals

Topic: RE: Anyone try NSAID patch?
I was given the flector patch recently for hip pain. (I'm scheduled for hip replacement in a few weeks.) I can't say I noticed more than slight, if any, pain relief very localized to where I placed it. Also, hard to keep on my hip - due to all this lose skin, not to mention, expensive for me after insurance. Maybe you'll have better luck.
Yep, the Cymbalta is time release med - I take twice a day.

Don't know about the flector patch butI do take cymbalta. Mine is time released either a full dose once a day or 1/2 dose twice a day. The twice a day seems to work better for me.

Becky,
i have not tried savella but want to. currently i am on cymbalta 90 mg, and i don't think it is doing much, but i am afraid if and when i go off of it, i will see that is was helping. What types of side effects did you experience with the cymbalta? the only side effects i have heard about with the savella is the nausea and being hot. Good luck with your surgery!

Hi Becky,
I was in a lot of pain a couple of weeks ago - you'll see a post below yours from me. I went to my doctor and she suggested we try adding the Savella in addition to my Lyrica. She mentioned the nausau to me, but I've been on it a week now and haven't experienced any nausau. I have experienced an increase in energy. She mentioned that it targed the chronic fatigue portion of the disease and the Lyrica would target the pain. I also have a muscle relaxer that I can take on if I have a really bad day I can't get out of bed. I'll let you know in a month or so how it's going if you like. Good luck on your surgery.
Hugs,
Candy

I sweat like a pig while I was on it. Didn't help the pain so I switched back to Cymbalta. It helps some but I still have a lot of pain.
