Well, my wife got her surgery date the other day. That's a good thing. We've been working towards this for a year now with all the clearances and everything else. Then not 5 minutes after she called to tell me the Army decided to pull its Trump card. They decided to ship me off to Washington, DC. Now this ordinarily wouldn't be an issue. But my report date is 5 days before my wife's surgery date! We thought about just canceling the surgery and do it up in the DC area. But then she would have to wait another year before she was eligible for vacation or any other comp time. I tried to delay my report date, but that didn't go through. Not even with a letter from the surgeon. Maybe once I get to DC they'll give me a few days and allow me to at least be there at the hospital with her. When she gets out her mom will stay with her for a couple weeks until she gets over the worst of it. Sorry to bore y'all, but I just needed to vent a bit. So how is everyone else doing?

SORRY that does suck.. What type of surgery is she having.. open or lap RNY.. or Band?? I had lap RNY.. was in out of the hospital 2-3 days.. and went home to be by myself. I was suppose to go to my parents home.. but I talked them into me going home alone. I just recouped better.. as I was use to being there..and alone. I didn't have any complications. I do understand that all surgery is risky.. and that you would want to be there with her.

Hi Woody we've never met because I have been MIA for awhile. First congrats that your wife has her surgery date!!!! That is exciting!! Second I am so sorry to learn you may not be with her. But I think I read right that she was having the lap RnY correct?? I know each person is different and I don't know your wife's weight and health conditions but for myself, I was well over 400lbs. and had several co-morbidities and made it thru just fine. Was out of the hospital in 3 days. Yes there is some recoup time and if her mom is going to be with her then you shouldn't have anything to worry about (yeah right...easier said then done I know ). The Good Lord brought her this far so he won't forsake her now, just remember that!! Nice to meet'cha!

Hi Woody... You sound so supportive and that is sooo GREAT. In my opinion, if your wife is going to have her mother to help her for a couple weeks, go on with your call of duty, and let your wife stay behind for the surgery. It really is not easy to get a new surgeon and go through all the hoops over again. If she is having the surgery done laproscopically, she will have a speedy recovery.... She will be able to make the move to be with you in no time at all. I think insurance companies are excluding this surgery from coverage more and more, so if she has the approval today....DO IT! I think the biiggest need for your support will come later, when she realizes that this surgery actually takes some hard work. We all have the honeymoon period that is EASY, but then comes the truth. It really takes work....and its not so easy to maintain.... or even to get to goal. Or the dreaded....you find out that you CAN tolerate sugar... Thats the worst. Best Wishes....Let us know how she does. Hugs, Jen

Well it is great that she got her surgery date...its lousy timing on the part of the Army...I had open RNY and felt ready to go back to work after a week even thought I didn't actually go bac****il after two...I know you want to be there for your wife during and right after the surgery but remember that even if you can't you will have plenty of opportunities to help her along the way.
