I'm in Ottawa, Canada -- my A1C had to be below 7.0 or they would not perform the surgery.
The last three months prior to surgery I was on mealtime insulin and long lasting Lantus overnight, plus three different medications. The mealtime insulin was necessary to get that A1C in line, as I was running at about 8.4. I hated it, and put on 24 pounds in those three months.

I'm only ten months post op, so things may change, but for me, no, the diabetic neuropathy, including pain, burning and numbness has not gone away. It's always difficult to describe pain in a numb area, yet that's the way it manifests for me.
I'm 64 and have had diagnosed diabetes for 15 years (I suspect undiagnosed for much longer than that).
I'm on generic Lyrica for the pain, and that helps me enormously.

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op, before my surgery i was taking 4000 mg metformin, over 200 units of lantus plus apidra (fast insulin) at everyy meal. My BS was still running >16 all day and getting over 20 some days
My BS numbers now are 6-10 all day and I am only taking 2000 metformin in the morning. I have lost 25 ils so far only but I had a 42 bmi

Ask your doctor if you can try Invokana. It is a new pill form drug that removes the sugar from your kidneys so that the sugar can not recirculate in your body. It is brand new and expensive, but seems to be work better than the other drugs out there now.
Good side effects are lower blood pressure and weight loss. Bad side effect is risk of yeast infection. I started it a week ago and seeing much improved sugar readings.
best to talk to your pcp or an endocrinologist
but I would increase my complex carbs
also make shore you don't drink anything for 1 hour after eating
you might be suffering from reactive hypoglycemia which is common with the rny because you don't have a functioning pyloric valve anymore which controls the speed of food leaving your stomach ( now pouch)

I have never had any issues with my sugar prior to having RNY. Now Im 1.5 years out and every couples weeks it happens. I know when it does bc my vision is slightly different, I get hot and shaky. My sugar is like 50..or 2.6mmol. Any suggestions.
It only went up a little and that is because I was taken off insulin and Byetta ,im only on metiformin and my pcp says I probably will not need that when I lose more weight my a1c went up from 5.8 to 6.4 so all is good
my blood sugar averages 120 with it taken twice a day for a month my pcp is happy with that
I wonder if people going off meds instantly might actually still need them sometimes. I know my diabetes is not under control though I hope it will be. It can go away later. Maybe yours will decrease as you progress.
