I am having RNYGB in 9 days and am hoping that it will halt the progression of neuropathy. I have severe periheral neuropathy in my feet and hands, also have gastroparesis. I have used Nuerontin and Lyrica for the pain and it does help. I have also used many different creams on my feet, try to keep your skin in as good a condition as possible. I also have done accupuncture/accupressure and reflexology on my feet- all of these help. Good luck.
I'm 2 weeks out of a sleeve surgery. My diabetes has not gone into remission. But my doc is telling me that the diabeties might still go into remission. I feel fine, but have been told not to take any meds until my regular doctor sees me.

New to the form so forgive me if this has been posted in the past. I'm 46 male and type 2 diabetic. My weight flux between 230-245 and have been struggling to keep A1C down last one was 6.9 i think but it also flux between 7-8. I know the next one will be hi becouse i havent seen a good sugar in 2 months.
I'm looking for people who have had this surgery and the outcome they have had complications , ups, downs are u happy with the choice to get this done? would u recomend it to a friend or family member it seems like a big change in some ways but not in others
My doctor recomends roux-en-y but ive been reading about doux switch also. I tend to work out in the gym between 3-6 days depending how busy i am at work and the hrs i put in.
My doctor is recomending it to me because It would give me a good chance to reduce the amount of meds I take and maybe get off them all together plus the weight loss would be good. So any advice would b nice.
let me know your experience Im looking forward to here it thanks BigGame510
How's it going? I had a lap band 8 years out and thinking about going to RNY or sleeve. I'm leaning towards a sleeve. I'm also a type 1 or 1.5. THinking 1.5. Any experience now with hypo reactiveness? TIA :)
I have to ask, I think I'm type 1.5. Lap band 8 years ago and now want revision w/either sleeve or RNY. Nervous b/c I don't want hypo reactiveness w/RNY so really thinking about sleeve. Please help! TIA.
Hello I saw this message board and saw several people that are like me:) I had a lap band 8 years ago but it's failed. I thought I was type 1 but endo said I'm type 1.5. Not using a lot of insulin, but need the weight off. I also find that food controls so much of my bs control. Anyhow, want to do a WLS revision. Thinking about sleeve or RNY. Worried alot about RNY and hypo reactiveness (hr). Really worried so now I'm leaning to the sleeve. I have to make a decision soon. Anyhow, what's your experiences thus far with hr? I'm in the process of losing my job so I'm trying to have this surgery by Feb. Also, my AIC is 9 so scared they may postpone. Help please!! I find when I"m low carb my sugars are beautiful! Also, anyone binge eater? I worry about that too. I do see a eating specialist. But I thought the sleeve is more appropriate b/c of decrease of ghrenlin hormone. Sorry too much information, but I think you all get it:) All the best!
I have cut ALL unnecessary carbs and increased my fat. Today was 2 protein shakes, greek yogurt, chicken, avocado, eggs, havarti cheese. Total of 170 grams proteins, 75 grams net carbs, 55 grams fat, 17 grams fat, and 1500 calories. My blood sugars are better but I don't have to much energy. The Doctor handling my diet said to add more fat and veggies and I will get my energy back. I don't have to take the acarbose if I'm having just protein. I am mixing peanut butter in my oatmeal and that is helping also. I am having a lot of gas and diarreha on the meds but I am hoping my body will adjust. I can not train on this little energy and I am not willing to give up doing Ironman at this time so I need to figure it out. It will get me by until we figure it out however. I have still had some problems of dropping to low with meds but 53 has been the lowest (better than before). I will NEVER regret my bypass, it is who I am. I am hoping with time I will learn more and be able to help others. I am lucky to have a team of Doctors who care. The research so far suggest a high fat, low carb diet is helpful with NIPHS while on Acarbose!!!

Hi. I had my RNY in 2009. Prior I had some episodes of hypoglycemia. I have a long fam history of diabetics and heart issues. I have not had alcohol since my surgery. I try to eat but sometimes forget. My BS can go as low as 40 and then it take me 30 min to recover. This happens almost daily.
MRI was normal
The Endo was not impressive...wanted to try surgery on pancreas but was not sure it would work. After reading about NIPHS I now will try Acarbose. Once the pharmacy can find it! I understand this is avey rare side effect from RNY - how lucky am I!? I am happy I had the surgery. I would like to know what diet has worked best for others with like symptoms.
I was was told to wear a medic alert is I faint so they can check my. BS and start protocol for that immediately.

Being diligent about your meds and about your diet will have a positive effect on your A1C before surgery. My surgery would have been postponed if I was too high on a finger stick the morning of surgery.
