Hi, I am afro American women 5'4" 212lbs and Type 2 diabetes + other health issues(Bp.cholest), I began my journey in April and now I'm waiting on my approval. The gastric bypass was suggested by my endocrinologist and I have been doing research and ready to began a life change to be healthy to be here for my kids. I am on novolog and levemir pens as well as metform plus more pills. I'm really insulin resistance. For me, this is the best option. I go to a weight loss center that walks me through the whole process on how to be successful after surgery. I am nervous to have the surgery but I see this as the best option to improve my quality of life and be here for the family. I think you should continue to research the process and decide what is important to you. Also if you can join a weight loss center that has surgical/non surgical options. That way all options are explained and you can make your own informed decision of what is right for you. Don't give up! Let me know how it goes for you.
Hi everyone.
I am 31 years old and from Ontario Canada. I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for almost two years now. I take fast acting insulin with each meal and a night time insulin. I also have gastroparesis. I have no symptoms of this, but a gastric empty tests shows I have it. I am in the process of going thru to have a gastric bypass and I am wondering if any of you have had gastroparesis and had weight Los surgery? My understand is here in Canada you are normally turned down because of it. The nurse at my centre said it is very much so a case by case basis.
Thank you
cassie
I was sleeved almost two weeks ago. I am a Type 2 who for the last 12 years has eaten very carefully and maintained A1c between 5 and 6. I always have trouble keeping my sugars up when it is hot out. Once I was discharged from the hospital I began checking often and I've seen readings between the 70's and 115 which I am happy with. Yesterday I found myself feeling really weak and exhausted, checked and I was in the 50's. I'm still on liquids, and will move to purees on Wednesday. Is there anyone who might want to share their experience keeping their blood sugar up after surgery? I don't want to drink fruit juice or eat frosting because I feel it will defeat the purpose. I'm unable to tolerate glucose tabs. I know I need to call my NUT and Endo and I will, but I like hearing from those who have lived it too.
I am a Type II diabetic; female, 52 years old. Was 235 lbs. when I started this journey and 218 at time of surgery, currently 135 lbs.
I was taken off my 2000mg of Metformin and 10mcg of Byetta immediately after surgery. My last A1c was 5.4 with my lowest one being 5.1. I was pretty well-controlled prior to surgery with my A1c being 6-7. I had the vertical sleeve so don't let anyone tell you that you can't successfully put your diabetes in remission with VSG - yes you can :-)
At 4 months, my A1c is now 4.8 and my fasting glucose is always between 85 and 90. I'm pretty happy so far.
