Topic: RE: stomach cancer
Had RnY July 2007 and diagnosed with Pre-Cancer. Many options for me, particularly since it was caught early. Many RnY patients still have the repository stomach which can be reattached and reused. Or, simply do a D-switch. Lot's of hope out there for stomach cancer WLS patients.

Topic: I'm on chemo/radiation can i still have my LB procedure done?
ok... i am currently 3 weeks in on a 6 week chemo/radiation treatment. I have to attend one more appt w/ the Lapband surgeon due to insurance rules...... So my LB surgeon said they need a note from my oncologist to do the procedure.
I haven't lost any weight since being on the chemo/radiation so my question is HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN IN A SIMILAR SITUATION AND DID YOUR ONCOLOGIST SAY YOU COULD GO AHEAD W/ THE LAPBAND?
thank you

Topic: Any dealt with Barrett's Esophagus and RNY?

Have been diagnosed with Barrett's Esphagus and am having RNY on 2/19/10. Has anyone had this done for Barrett's? Are you glad you had it done? How much weight did you lose? I had vertical banded gastroplasty in 1984, and now weigh 174. Can I expect any more weight loss?

Topic: "Taking it off" for kids with cancer!
I’m going to shave my head - for the fourth time -  and I need your support! Why? Some of you may know why! I’m taking it all off to raise money for childhood cancer research – going bald in solidarity with kids battling this terrible disease.

The poor hairs on my head will find themselves forcibly ejected on Saturday, March 6th as part of this year's St. Baldrick's Day organization event.  Please help me reach my goal of a thousand dollars by then both to justify this bodacious decision, and to fund as much research as possible!

More than 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year. Despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. I’m out to help change that! Team Brent - of which I am proud to be a member - continues to be the top fund-raising St. Baldrick's Team in the world, raising over $3 million, one head at a time.

Since St. Baldrick’s began in 2000, shavees like me have helped raise more than $69 million, enabling the organization to grow into the world’s largest fundraising event for childhood cancer. The Foundation made more than $12 million in grants last year alone, to some of the top pediatric cancer researchers working today, and also to many young doctors who will be the research experts of tomorrow. And in fact, St. Baldrick's funds more children's cancer research than any other entity besides the United States government.

Children fighting cancer lose not only their hair but precious years from their childhood, and sometimes their lives. Compared to a child’s struggle, shaving my head is a small sacrifice, and your gift can help save lives.

If you'd like to help, please PM me and I will send you all the details.

Thank you in advance if you are able to help and, most of all, for your continued support!

don't know.. but the best person to ask is your surgeon that did your band.  When facing chemo I called my surgeon's office.. (RNY was mine) so my surgeon's office had some suggestions and I have added in not only nexium but another antacid to protect my teeny tiny tummy..
do what you believe is right.. you most likely know your body better than "regular" people now.
good luck!

Started at  215, I now weigh 149!! I gained 10lbs after Chemo. Currently looking to lose that 10-20lbs I LOVE my RNY

nope that is not a reason to worry about - amazing how we worry - i DID think of
this before my surgery too!  there are lots of ways around it, so no worries. There are
more risks of cancer with obesity than pouch worries, :D
