Congrats on making you goal!!

High weight - 337
Last week - 200.9
This week - 200.3
Next Goal: 196.3
Still teeter-tottering on the brink of onderland. On another note- I take my measurements rather randomly, and was totally stoked when I took them last week and realized I've lost 2" off my arms from my last measurement I (in April). If it weren't for the batwings my arms would be awesomely toned!

Hi and welcome to OH. I'm sorry about that experience you had with your kids. I remember once my kids were young and riding their bikes and I was walking- they took off far ahead of me. I tried catching up with them but couldn't- other jogger on the path offered to catch up with them for me. it didn't dawn on me then that my weight is what kept me from catching up with them-- I just wrote it off to kids on bikes are faster than adults on foot (denial at its best). I'm glad they are safe.
It's good you can afford to self pay; but I'm surprised your doctor is not requiring any pre-op testing, weight loss etc. That time period usually helps you get acclimated with some of the changes that you will need to make post op. I was only about 6 weeks from consult to surgery-- but it helped working with the nutritionist to make changes I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Are you working with a nutritionist?
I have no experience with gastritis so I can't offer any advice-- what did you doc say about restarting the meds prior to surgery? I would not take phentermine in anywhere near surgery b/c of its known effects on heart rate. White knuckle it though the liquid diet is my best suggestion. There are many on these boards that are proof its possible to make it through (myself included). You WILL get hungry-- and be grumpy. Drink your shakes, chew gum and drink water till your sick of it and then drink some more.
Regarding care for your kids post op-- - why not hire someone, like a mothers helper? I've used care.com with great success in the past. Regarding your non-supportive hubby-- since you describe your marriage as rocky already- I'd encourage finding a therapist to guide you though this major transition your life is about to go through.

All weight loss surgeries are life-saving surgeries. They have nothing to do with vanity. Liposuction is 'vanity surgery.' But not any form of bariatric surgery. If your insurance will cover it, find someone in your area or a drivable distance who does the DS in a Center of Excellence. It will revolutionize your life!
No, the BPD is a similar operation but not the exact same as the Duodenal Switch. I think the BPD is an older operation, almost never done anymore, and has more complications and/or less effective than the DS.
Oh Thank you for the information about the book. I will have to read it. I'm pretty set on the vitamin and supplements since I already take so many medications now. I'm hoping to replace the medicine with the vitamins and supplements. Plus, I need to have a knee replacement, back fusion and heel spurs removed. But no one will do those surgeries without have gastric bypass first. So now that it's a major health concern, I'm looking into the surgery. Because I was looking at gastric bypass as a cosmetic surgery and not medical instead now.
My surgery was pushed back to Monday the 12th, but thanks! I accepted your buddy request. I'll kee ya posted
you can do it, too!!! It's not easy, but it's definitely do-able with this tool!!!
Leslie,
I'm looking to lose about 200 pounds as well! It seems you had your surgery yesterday? HOPE YOU ARE RECOVERING WELL! Would love to buddy up with you, too!
Amy
I'm prep and I would like to encourage you in any way I can! Can you share how much you have lost so far...and what areas you think are tripping you up? It's hard when there isn't a lot of support. I am in the same situation. But I think with determination and the right mental head space, we can do ANYTHING we truly put our minds to!
