Well my son's birthday was Saturday. Had a big BBQ and swim party. I did great during it. Only had about an ounce of beans and a slice tamato. BUT after there was sooo much cake and ice cream left. My 2 worst weaknesses. Well I did good. Sent ALL the ice cream home with a friend that attended. BUT did take a few slices of cake for my frige for my son to eat. Left the rest of the cake at the clubhoust for anyone to eat. Well I have been looking at the cake and have not touced it. It is a mental hunger at this point but I am very much on the winning end of this so far. I can not tell my son he can not have any of his leftover birthday cake. SO I just need to grin and bear it and all will be fine. So far doing well.

You are a better woman than I am.  I had a bit of a meltdown (apologized for it later) when SO sat down with a great big bowl of chocolate icecream and syrup.  I would have fallen face first into that plate of left over cake if I were you!

I have dumped twice, both on too much fat, but let me tell you the fear alone stopped me from even being interested in one bite of cake for over a year! I was, am, always will b,e a sugar addict so I made a vow to stay far away.

You did great and I know you can avoid it. If it's not gone yet get rid of it. I don't keep anythng in the house I can't eat, makes the whole family eat healthier.

Kathleen-

I *completely* understand what you're saying. I've had to refuse birthday cake the past two weeks and when my mom had leftovers in her house it was really, really hard to resist them. It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job and recognizing that the cake is for your son to eat and that it's not for you.

I'm not sure if you know if you dump on sugar or not. I know, for me, that I made a vow not to try cake until my own birthday which is around Thanksgiving.

Hang in there. Encourage him to eat the cake and get it out of your house at the soonest.

I do not dump on surgar. So far doing well on willpower. I am winning so far. If I even do a little I know myself well enough it will take forever to get back to where I am now on the willpower issue. SO my rule for myself is never ever even a little. ALL junk food is banned from my house. Mostley organic and veggy here. My son hates it but he is eating soo much healthier as well. I did give in on the purchasing for a birthday party but that is it since my surgery in april this year. He was sooo happy with the cake. And yes it is all gone now. WHEWWWWWW!!!!!

Sugars make me dump (not a fear, actuality.. ).. So I avoid them like the DEVIL.. as much as I would love cake, it's not worth the horrible feeling of dumping.. :) I am proud of you though for having the will power to stay way.

Cake and donuts are two of my biggest vices.  I still have a hard time going to Costco and walking past the cake section.  Did I mention how much I love Costco cake?

Stay strong!  Don't even take a bite.  A friend of mine who had WLS a few years ago tried a cookie (his biggest vice) just to see how it would go and found out he doesn't dump on sugar.  He now eats cookies all the time and is 100 lb fatter.  That fear is what keeps me away from sugar, plus the fact that sugar does make me dump.

I did have a icing free cupcake or 2 or 3 over the 4th of july weekend.  They only had 100 cals in them and less than 20 carbs about 6g sugar so I was ok.  Had 3 in one day spread out and went over calories for the day by that 300 calories.

Haven't done it since then though.  I got rid of the craving that day.
