Does the soreness after surgery feel like....

maybe...similar to the soreness after a c-section?? I have had two of them and the second one was a lot easier than the first, because I knew what to expect.  So, I'm wondering if I can relate my upcoming WLS to the same kind of discomfort and soreness??

its what I'm expecting.  I have only had one csection but I really hope this mirrors that pain.  at least then I know I can handle it.

a lot seems the same, coughing excersises, walking the same day as surgery.  that was all stuff I did after csection.

If you are having it lap I'd say a c-section would hurt much worse - I haven't HAD a c-section but the pain after surgery wasn't all that bad IMO, I stopped pain control as soon as I was out of the hospital (after both surgeries, I had two b/c of complications)

If you are having it open, that's another matter entirely

I do have a high pain tolerance.  I had a c-section 20 years ago when I was 19.  I was released from the hospital 3 days later and we were walking in the mall at 9 days out.

As far as the RNY or laparascopic surgery, The first day, I can say I had pain but it wasn't unbearable because I had my chubby little fingers wrapped around my morphine button until the next morning.

The 2nd day following surgery, I started weaning myself off the loratab.  Started with every 4 hours and then moved to 5 hours, then 8 hours then only at night time to help me sleep.

I really wasn't in pain.  I can truly say is was more just discomfort.  They aren't cutting through your stomach and layers of muscle for 4-5 inches.  Just 5-6 small incisions in the stomach wall.

Much easier than C-section for sure!

Hi Diane,

Having never had a child I can't compare but if you went through childbirth, c-section or not, WLS should be a piece of cake.  I had open RNY and had no pain or difficulties after the surgery except for a wound that had to be cared for a few times per day.  After my plastics it was a different story.

Good luck to you.

Jeanne

thank you all for your replies, I am having Lap RNY so it's a relief to know that it shouldn't be as bad as the C-sections!  I was up and walking the first day in the evening, to go pee. and I went home the next with the last baby. So as I am determined, I know this is going to be a piece of cake!

I did not have a C-Section when giving birth so I can't compare. But the only real discumfort I had was when I first woke up after surgery. I couldn't tell if it was pain or nausea to tell you the truth. But once they gave me the pain pump all was well. That was the end of the pain. When I got home every once in a while I would have a twinge on my right side where the liver was lifted out of the way during surgery. To tell you the truth, the worse part of it all was getting the 2 drains pulled out a week after surgery.

Amen!!  Those drains were quite painful IMO.  I dreaded it the second time around because the first time was so awful.

I agree with kathi its more of a discomfort than a pain.

i had my c section 15 yrs ago and it was painful after the first day this wasnt bad it was annoying when i got up cause its a little tight feeling.

youll do fine
